Eccleston-Capaldi is where you should start.

Old Who after that. Ignore the gender and race swaps, they are not Doctors.

There is a fuckton of Old Doctor Who - Twitch did a marathon where they showed all the surviving original Old Doctor Who stuff - the marathon ran 24 hours a day and I'm pretty sure the damn thing lasted close to 2 weeks. You don't need to watch it to understand the newer Doctor Who stuff really - the new shows do callbacks occasionally, but it isn't required to enjoy them and they do try to explain to the audience who isn't familiar with the old stuff what the history is. All you need to know from the old series is The Doctor -hates- Daleks more than anything, The Master is the only person who is close to or about his equal, and the Doctor regenerates into a new Doctor when he dies.

Eccelston - Capaldi era are the most solid. The Matt Smith era where he had Amy Pond + Rory as companions was probably my personal favorite of the bunch. Rory starts off as sort of a third wheel, but he grows into it by the end of the initial introduction season and you appreciate him a lot more.

I have pretty much enjoyed Doctor Who since I was a kid staying up late watch it on PBS at like midnight with Monty Python, Benny Hill, etc. Then they went and made the Doctor a man-hating cunt. And now a gay dude. I'm so fucking done. I'll just continue enjoying the old stuff and trying to forget this new shit even exists.

Missing the last few seasons, but still curious if the storylines are better?

Personally, I don't care about the other issues. I am just curious how the actual story is progressing, are they setting up anything big?

Eccleston was still my favorite of the new Who.. sucks that the showrunners are complete tools and he didn't do more seasons.

No. The good storylines pretty much left when Moffat did.

That era was kind of an anomaly, historically Dr Who has always been a low budget kid's show, and the quality of writing was wildly all over the place, but usually below average.

Billie Piper as the Doctor...

Oh for fuck's sake.....

This looks like such an insanely desperate and shallow ploy to try to get back viewers they've lost probably since the first half of Capaldi and on. I can only hope it's a "shock value" regeneration like the second coming of Tenant was leading to a proper Doctor. But I also know any hope for that is like pissing while facing into the wind at this point.

Damn 2005 was 20 years ago and she wasn't that hot then. Can't imagine what she looks like in her 40s.

Oh wait here she is. Almost as ugly as Donna Noble was.

It's just Billie Piper as a placeholder or Bad Wolf / The Moment shenanigans. It's actually quite smart since if there IS a hiatus at this point you know Billie Piper will always be game to come back and do a special to regenerate into whoever the proper 16th/17th Doctor is.

It's years too late to save the show. I liked Billie Piper, she was a solid companion with some good depth. This could have brought me back for a look if it was like right after Capaldi, but after the last few shit Doctor's, I'm out.

Ah. Din't see that one coming. Didn't even know it was Ncuti's last show. Don't care about Piper one way or another because they don't have a clear idea where they want the show to go.
