I don't know how you guys stick to a few heroes to get good at them. That's my problem in MOBA games. I play All Pick a lot just in the solo queue, and the game comes up, with "800" heroes poppin' off in my face, and I'm like Awww shit what do I want to play? And at my bottom of the barrel skill level if I have a good game with a hero, the next game will be terrible, and I'm like F that, playing someone else. lol

Still have fun, but I think I just gotta expect I won't be anywhere put in the pub league.
That's how I started too but after a while I just started focusing on supports and then on certain supports. The ones I find fun to play. But before that like when I was playing HoN, I was randoming or picking new heroes every game, maybe playing a few games in a row with a certain hero but then changing. Eventually I came back often to Witch Hunter(Lion in dota) and so that became my favorite hero but I was still playing a lot of shit. When I played lol the support pool was a lot more limited but at the same time with the static meta I could also play junglers often and sometimes mid too, so I had a few favorite hero for all these.

In dota2, out of 650ish games or so, I have 50ish with Lion, 50ish with Lina, 50ish with Rubick and then it goes down to like 25games with WR/Ogre Magi/Lich and then it's like 10games top for the rest with a fairly large amount of heroes. The crazy people are the ones with like 80+% of their games played on a single hero, like how Admiral Bulldog had a stupid amount of Lone Druid games or how Pirate is famous for having like 1500games as Sand King. Fuck that noise though, even with how much I like playing Lion I haven't played him 2 games in a row in forever, it's just when I'm on a losing streak I generally go Lion and win.

I just random. I have about 650 games and my most played is furion with about 35 or so because I pick him when I'm drunk and rush dagon. I find it a lot more fun to random than pick the same hero every game. No idea how someone can play the same hero 100s of times. Seems so boring. There are only so many builds to play.

I don't mind match making, I dont get too many retards. I'm in the VH bracket and I solo queue and random and still maintain a decent win %.

Random every game is how i learned. It's also more fun since I dislike picking the same thing over and over. It's hard at first cause you will suck, but there's no better way to learn imo.
I've actually been doing this with the limited hero pool they put in for tutorial purposes. it's nice because i've got some experience now with the 20 heroes you can pick from. basically i just random then real quickly look at the in game guides and skills and just see what happens. I think now i want to jump into the full hero pool. the tough part like you said is i'm going to suck with just about all the heros but I've found ignore is a great feature if someone starts flaming. I also will watch a how to video if i come across a hero that i really had fun with.

That's a pretty good way to look at it, any asshole yelling at you in your beginner brackets is probably going to be terrible forever.

Sort've. If you are new to a hero and suck at him, you should at least ask for advice in the game. You'd be surprised how often someone will give you a few essential pointers right off the bat. * If not, Then you ignore the flamers. If you dont ask for advice, and then you suck and dont man up to the mistakes, I cant blame the assholes for yelling.

Yeah, I sort of agree... just don't know how much useful advice you'll get in that bracket. Even in very high you'd get yelled at for going aghanim's razor (before it became the proper build) or going 1/1/3/1 on kunkka.

True, I still think communicating about it with the team isnt a bad way to start the game off tho ;p

Where I'll agree is some people will rage at anything anyway. You get a carry easy lane and your support decides to get some last hits, bonus points if he nukes the creeps with spells to make sure he gets them, doesnt support you at all, doesnt harass, doesnt stack pull. Then he leaves your lane at 4 minute mark leaving you solo vs 2, underfarmed and behind on basicaly everything. 10 minute later he rages at you because the game is over and you have basicaly no items vs their properly supported carry.

^I've seen this game at least 200 times, and the carry always gets yelled at ;p

Too many people try to play like professionals. If I support I'll usually chicken, ward, dust, and such, but I will not sit there at 30 minutes with boots and wards. If you expect that shit, play inhouse or cm, not ap pubs. If you pick Void it would be awesome if your team followed up with 2 supports that stack and pull and give you free farm, but that isn't going to happen the majority of the time. That's what annoys me about AP, people quick pick a carry and then want me to pick a support and ward all game. Sorry man, thats not how it works. As you go higher in the skill bracket supports "support" more, but don't expect them to. Also, farming very rarely wins games vs. killing in pubs. Sure you might be getting every last hit, and have a 5 minute midas, but if your team gets stomped before you can do anything, that farm was useless. It's your fault as a carry if your team loses even though you got every last hit, as your team was fighting 4v5 and you weren't contributing anything.

If you want to play the style of dota you see the pros play, you need to play IH or CM (never play cm so dunno how it is). If you play AP don't rage when your team picks 5 melee, its part of the game.

who said anything about 30 mins...i said 4 minutes... If you are playing support and you let your carry die over and over cause you decided to ditch him pre 10 mins, you have no right to blame him for a loss at 20 mins.

I had one of "those" games earlier. Started off 3 players from the other team trying to "gank" our mid before the creeps spawned, or at least that's what I thought was happening. We managed to kill them with the help of the tower and I think lost someone in exchange and I thought things would go back to normal. Nope, their whole team continued to try and zerg mid over and over and it quickly became obvious they didn't care and were attempting to throw the match.

The reason for this?

Someone had picked QOP and wanted mid, someone then picked Pudge who wanted mid, some on the team didnt like Pudges item choices of boots/wards to start so decided they'd ruin the game! #dotalogic

That's 3 in X? Is that new? Never seen that, don't really see the point, if you have 2 in X you setup the torrent and the torret setup the boat anyway, is 3 so you can setup the boat first? I totally agree on X before maxing Tidebringer if you're solo though, cause you're going to chain kill your lane once you hit 6 vs Tidebringer which MIGHT zone him depending on his hero and if he's bottle crowing. With the boat stupid 50secs cd or whatever, you can just farm a solo over and over if they can't survive the combo which most heroes can't.

I actually agree with you and if I feed i immediately apologise. I love when people offer advice in game but im hesitant to start the game admitting im new to the hero only bc three times in a row ive had someone say "great a fucking newb" then rage quit 5 mins in. Outside of the in game guides and the wiki I watch purge vids. Any other good sources for builds?

I don't understand your point... what do you do when you pick a carry? Harass the hero out of the lane? You're not going to get kills if supports aren't supporting since there are very few carries that can solo kill before 6.

Yes it's to guarantee boat... I think TC did it some match a bit ago. Never really liked the 2 in X build since the cast range was so low. This way it's a bit easier to surprise the person.

AP is a cesspool filled with carries and mids who have delusions of grandure. Solo qing for it is probably worse than ar if you are looking for a competitive game in which roles are understood, filled, and followed. RD SD solo for life.

I AR, RD, SD solo queue; but my issue is when I first pick RD and my team invalidates my pick or SD when I have all caries and my team goes all caries.

I'm fine you picking a carry, but you cant expect the same level of support as pros get. Obviously your supports should help you, but people expect to get 20 minutes of free farm on a carry and when their team fails they complain.

People bitching is always annoying but its kinda the job of support to win early game and get the carry farm

this...ffs the whole term carry signifies the guy will carry the team on his shoulder for victory. As a support it's your job to carry him early game so he can get there... The supports that understand this win games, the others yell at carries past 30 mins and have shitty records.
