Usual disclaimer, it starts somewhat slow. Not as slow as some other stuff, but the first few quests you're confined into the "starting area" and don't get to do too much. Once you start the escort of the wagon towards... whatever the fuck the name of the city is, the game opens up a lot and you start fighting large groups of enemies or just large enemies and it's a ton more fun. Sidequests are fairly optional so unless you're a completionist you can ignore some/most of them, although some are only available until you progress the story further and some are tied to romancing some of the fine wenches you'll encounter(which really does fucking nothing other than switch a cutscene later on) so it can be a pain if you don't want to miss anything.

Game gets really good once you start being able to switch your classes and get all the advanced jobs and stuff and fight the big ass monsters with your party of retarded but once in a while brilliant NPCs, or once you start summoning a F5 Tornado into a pack of goblins that didn't ask for anything.

I bought Dark Arisen when it was released for the PS4. I followed this guide:

Pretty much takes you through the entire game with recommended character builds. I thoroughly enjoyed both the FAQ (made me laugh out loud quite a bit...great writer) and the game. When you do finish the game, it's not over. The world ends up changing and you can still run around and do stuff.

When I played through Dragon's Dogma 1, I ended up looking up builds/guide for the follower, but don't remember using a walkthrough.

I found the combination of story, world, and combat good enough to "finish" the game, but interest was pretty much dead after the main story was over. That's further than I usually get in these types of games though. I never even got half way through the main campaign/story in Monster Hunter World, Dark Souls, or Elden Ring (if you can even call what they have a story).

Steam says I played 80 some hours, but I don't even remember much about it anymore (outside of running up/down some enormous winding stair case and of course, harpy titties).

They'll never top the title screen music from the first one.

That intro kinda sums up the game for me. Seems like generic fantasy at the beginning, but keep going and it's pretty damn awesome. It's a fucking crime that they removed it.

The game has just the right amount of jank and oddness to be one of my all time favorites. I hope the sequel continues that.

I think i've played the first game through every other/third year since it came out. It's definitely got some weird mechanics and new players should read up a bit on the level system so they don't gimp their character. It's also got weird quest conditions, where you can very easily miss cool content, so I would highly recommend anyone playing it for the first time read up on how to trigger Aelinore's quest and Griffin's Bane (one playthrough I killed the Griffin so fast in the early part of the quest it never got a chance to kidnap a guard, cutting off the best part of the quest by far).

The PC port is also really well done because it never crashed for me and I can't remember any major bugs.

Hope they release this polished. The first game single handedly made me switch back to 'normal' monitors this last build due to how it would flake every time I launched it on a widescreen monitor.

Ladies and gentlemen, I’m hyped for this. It’s still look janky like the first one. But the magic and the action look wild. So do we have a name for games or media made in Japan that has western mythology or medieval tone. Like a berserk, dark soul, or FF16

Always been a thing, probably more popular now due to the surge of the isekai genre in manga/anime/light novels(the large majority of isekais is guy gets summoned/reincarnated in a western medieval fantasy setting), no real name for it I'd think, closest would be westaboo which is reverse weaboo but most of the time it isn't even that, they just like the fantasy setting it's been well established with their own spins on it with Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest and as you mentionned cult classics like Berserk.

Played the first one through finally and it was decent. Bitterblack Isle definitely scratches that dungeon diving experience. I'm not going to farm shit over-and-over again though, especially after reading about all the RNG nightmares.

Now I have no idea what to play next.
