I watched Alien3 and Terminator 3 as a kid when they came out and did enjoy them at the time. I only recently watched Robocop for the first time this past spring. I absolutely loved 1 and 2. I have a few brothers, two of them are movie buffs. One warned me against Robocop 3. Told me not even to bother. The other told me I HAD to watch it to finish the trilogy (two 40+ year old angels on my shoulders whispering in my ears). I got about 15 minutes into it before turning it off due to cringe.

I do have shit taste in movies, though. If a movie wins awards, I most likely am not going to like it. It's like Classic Art. I know Beethoven is an amazing composer, but I'm almost never going to put him on when listening to music. If a movie has escapism and is... you know... fun, I'm probably going to like it. (Dredd (2012), Aliens (1986), Robocop, The Dark Knight, Fury Road, Outland (1981), Escape from NY, First Blood, etc).

That movie Anora that won the oscar this year, or something... I watched it and I fucking hated it.

Like I can get through most movies / find the good in them. This one though...holy hell.

I actually sort of like the main actress in it (even if she has the same creepy "dead shark eyes" vibe that Bella Ramsey does).

However the movie totally failed as a romance (the main woman is an insufferable whore and the main guy is a moron who is wealthy due to his parents). The second half of the movie turned into basically a slapstick comedy where they were chasing the guy around the city after he ran off, checking clubs for him and stuff, to the point where you start to wonder if the guy was supposed to be retarded or the writers were.

I guess it's good if you want to watch Mikey Madison strip and sell herself Onlyfans-style to various men (truly a role model to be celebrated) but it gets real retarded real fast. Yet it won an oscar.

It better be the original version where they're from Geist!

Edit: it is! I'm going to have to watch it this evening. It's been eons.

Zeist! Where they condemn their criminals to be immortal and go to earth - and well they fight each other to death, so thats bad… but, your immortal lol such punishment.

The others just cut down the sequences and made it “the past” lol… it really helped so much…

And dont forget to end the cycle with The Sauce! Err Source.

This should be a bannable offense. Posting in or making any Dredd related threads without the post being confirmation a movie is being made.

I remember watching the first one on HBO when I was a kid, and I think I rented the second from the video store, but I did see the third back in college in the theater. That now is watching the reruns of the show on SciFi. The third one is really bad but I got a soft spot in my heart for the original second with Zeist!

It's such a a fucked up movie and goofy movie.

Basically the remake of this movie turned Zeist into a lost ancient civilization (~15,000+ years ago) on Earth. The people there are all immortal, and their technology advanced to where they were able to send people to the future (they'd lose their memories) which is how immortals are created. They're people from the ancient civilization that got beamed forward however many thousand years to live in the modern era.

Even that massive change to Highlander 2's framework didn't help the movie much. It's an inherently terrible movie, but it's funny enough to be watchable to make fun of it.

I think Highlander 3 is actually kind of underrated and pretty decent, while Endgame (4) is easily the best since the original movie. And then there's The Source (5) which is so bad that it isn't even worth watching to make fun of.

Highlander: The Series is really fuckin' good though and a lot of people missed out on that one. It falls apart a bit towards the end (like Lost, it has a subpar last 10-15 episodes where you could tell everyone was out the door) but for the most part HL: The Series delivers the goods. However, for it to make any sense, you have to adopt the new show canon that Connor vs. Kurgan in HL1 was just a particularly big battle in the grand scheme of immortals, not the final battle.

Personally I like HL1->The Series->Endgame as a pretty solid start-to-finish continuity that generally makes total sense within itself with that one caveat about Connor/Kurgan. HL3 is also a fun thing to watch midway through The Series to see what Connor's been up to (it came out during Season 3 of the show, so I usually watch it after S3).

HL2 is a joke and only useful as something to watch and make fun of while having beers with the lads, and The Source is a made for TV movie that should be ignored as if it doesn't exist. Highlander: The Raven (a one-season spinoff of the show) is just kind of there, I hear it has some good episodes but is mostly pretty much a waste of time unless you're a show superfan). Beyond watching HL2 for the luls, if one wants to really behold the full splendor that is Highlander, here's my suggestion. While someone could easily just watch Highlander 1 and call it a day, here's:

Skeptical if there's no Karl Urban, I'm going to save $10 and wait for Dredd 4.

Nope, nope, nope. Can't have this thread until Dredd 2 at least wraps on production. Putting this where it belongs.

The anime movie was legit-

Endgame was fine, but I cannot get past that the immortals and the watchers would not setup sanctuary on holy ground or that - that “rule” is just forgotten / overlooked / not a thing or whatever / other random excuse for poor writing and execution

I didn't like how Duncan killed Connor- there is no “move” that is kill or be killed when one side of the encounter is not fighting to kill- Connor didnt want to kill Duncan, so he would not have “followed through” with the counter. They should have done something else.

HL3 is fine, it explains the restart of the game (more than the series did lol) has Mario van peebles acting hallariously evil haha and Deborah Ungher there to pay for Christopher lambert to show back up- i like 3 all in all

The source is nearly as lulz as 2 - but has some…some…little…redeeming scenes

Yeah the anime was pretty good. Also hilarious with the main character just constantly dying in hilarious/gruesome ways because the main bad guy is so much better than he is for the majority of the movie.

Endgame's logic gaps were its weakness, for sure. Watchers building a sanctuary that isn't on holy ground (or is and the bad guys ignored it) is pants on head retarded.

Unless one subscribes to the idea that Jacob Kell was just so evil and so powerful that he decided to completely ignore The Rules and dare the gods to do something about it (the last time someone did that was Pompeii... this time, nothing I guess). This is a guy with more kills than any other living immortal, who specifically planned for Connor to be his 666th kill just to be cheeky.

HL3 did do more to explain the game continuing than the series did, you're right. The series was just kinda like "welp Connor/Kurgan wasn't the end and there are still plenty of immortals lol" while HL3 at least tried to give an explanation as to why the game would restart post-HL1.

HL3 pretty much ignoring The Series was weird, since Christopher Lambert appeared in The Series and it was clearly intended to be in the same continuity as HL1 and 3. HL1 I understand because they didn't know it was going to be a franchise yet, but HL3 should have taken The Series more into consideration so as to not muddle the canon even more.

The HL movies are probably the worst continuity-mess of any series I've ever seen, which is why I just go with:

RAJAAH'S DEFINITIVE HIGHLANDER SERIES WATCH ORDER

-HTS Season 3

and just ignore whatever doesn't make sense in any given movie

Ehh, i put HL1/3 as its own “thing” as he yet again wins the prize and has a kid in the epilogue right? Riding horses or whatever, also a kid?

With the series its HL1 series - endgame - source

If you haven’t seen highlander the search for vengeance the anime, its quite good. I dont remember what all it references for movie/series connection other than he is an adopted Macleod

Sounds like a good reason to re watch… ALL OF IT
