I initially put this in the PS4 thread, but figured it would be better to have its own thread. Especially once the game comes out and people are talking about it a lot more.

Saw this update about DriveClub. Looks very very promising. Can't wait.

remember if you are PS+ you get a free version of DriveClub but its kinda crippled - you only get India as the country with tracks, I think the full version has 4 other countries? I assume you can't race to get other countries, and have to upgrade to the full version.

gonna check out the PS+ version and decide if i wanna buy or not, I was looking forward to the Crew but after playing the beta on PC its a pretty shitty game filled with microtransactions and bugs galore

Don't know if there are any Mercedes fans out there but Driveclub announced the brand new Mercedes-AMG GT sports car for it's roster. "Even though the car will be released on the market in 2015, it?s going to be available exclusively in DRIVECLUB as free DLC right after the game?s launch."http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/...-in-driveclub/

No, it's more arcadey than sim(GT) from what I've read and seen.

I think they said that the free version will be available October 9.

I have been playing the game all morning. It's got some very good points, but it is nowhere near as good as the Forza games IMO. There is a severe lack of cars compared to Forza, and quite honestly, the graphics are not as good as they are in Forza. I really like how Driveclub handles penalties. They really want you to strive to stay on the road, and to avoid colliding with walls and other cars. Even though it's incredibly arcade, there's not much in the way of "assists" in Driveclub. That being said, you've really got to pay attention to what you're doing in order to navigate the track well.

I think Driveclub is a decent game. It's really fun to do the Club challenges. But I think Forza is a much better game in pretty much every aspect.

The problem with DriveClub is that it's just competent. You'll drive some fast cars in some arresting environments. You might even have fun, in between getting clobbered with penalties. But there's no romance to it. No passion. What there is, however, is the lingering sense that the gaps were supposed to be filled by the much-touted social features - the fires were to be stoked by human rivalry. Sadly, beyond those bite-sized Face Off challenges, which are essentially side missions, there's nothing particularly engaging or new here.
It got a 6/10. Waiting to see more reviews on this one.

yeah 6/10 seems about right, i played a few mins today although the mp servers seem to be down. Just throws you right into the game, no story or anything which is fine. I've only played need for speed and mario kart the last few years, so having a game where you get penalized (hard) for going off track or hitting other cars is just weird to me now. The graphics seem kinda bad to be honest, it looks like a PS3 game not next gen - at least the 3 tracks I played so far, maybe it gets better out of india.

having fun, but unless you are a massive racing fan or something I'd stick with the free PS+ version. i think project cars is coming out soon too.

Online mode is down so... can't really judge much. Very no frills - no car setups, no assist/difficulty switches, everyone is playing the same game. Also no annoying voiceovers or intro videos or unskippable cutscene bullshit, all of which I call a plus.

DriveClub put this post on facebook:

Hi Everyone,

With DRIVECLUB, we are dedicated to delivering a dynamic and socially connected racing game that everyone can enjoy, and along the way we're facing new challenges which we haven't encountered as a development team before. We are seeing a lot of activity and new social behaviours right now, but unfortunately this is pushing the servers to their absolute limits.

We are sorry if you are having a hard time getting online as we know many of you are. Please be aware that the game will automatically keep trying to connect you. Once you're online, you should have no further problems during your session.

Everyone at the studio is now working hard to get new updates ready for the game servers to improve connectivity. We will be rolling out these updates day by day and will keep you informed.

In order to help all DRIVECLUB players who have the game already, we're temporarily holding back the PS Plus Edition and the My DRIVECLUB app to ease the load and traffic to the servers. This should give players a better chance of connecting to the game servers and, once the servers are operating well, we'll be sure to let you know when the PS Plus Edition and My DRIVECLUB app will be available to download.

To our PS Plus fans, we're sorry you're having to wait longer to play, but we want to ensure that when you come on board, you get the best experience possible. Rest assured, if you've pre-ordered the full game upgrade from the PS Plus Edition, you will still get the full version of DRIVECLUB digitally, and if you can't get online you'll be able to get started offline like everybody else with single player mode as you start your DRIVECLUB tour. You'll still be able to earn fame, unlock cars and get to grips with all of the options for playing and creating your own events and challenges - and everything you do will be synchronised with the servers when you do get connected, so you can set-up a bunch of challenges to send out to your friends as soon as you are able to join each other online.

We fully appreciate how frustrating this is for everyone. We want you to get online with your club because racing, challenging and having fun together is what the game is all about. We know that racing with your friends online is what you've been waiting for and we are doing everything we can to deliver that experience to you as soon as possible.

Sorry again for the difficult start. We'll keep you regularly updated on our progress as we work round the clock to improve connectivity. We want everyone to know what's happening so please tag your DRIVECLUB friends or SHARE this message to let them know.

- Rushy

15 years later and we still haven't figured out how to avoid PDS (patch day syndrome).
