I got caught up and I like it. I'm interested in seeing where it's going. It is an incredibly subversive and degenerate piece of work.
It does this thing where it introduces the sleezy or the bizarre and the show looks like it's going in one direction (in line with the assessment of the main detective dude) before slowly reframing plot elements and character traits as reasonable or even wholesome. Good acting, good camera work, good writing, interesting characters, massive degeneracy. I'm not sure I've seen anything like it.

100%. I almost checked out after episode 2, but the way they start swerving you to the point where you're becoming sympathetic to these ultimately kinda shitty people is pretty wild.

Finished it up tonight.
I don't think it's a recommend. It feels like the whole point is to introduce people to bizarre fetishes, cuckoldry, face-sitting, etc. with a coat of wholesomeness/naivety.

The payoff on the broken dick story was alright but yeah, it was weak. There was a spot in the interrogation room when I thought we were really going to go somewhere crazy or dark or comedic or all three and no. No we do not.

Yeah, I thought they were going for the "twist" angle toward the end there, but it just kind of fizzles out.
Like I said, you do inevitably feel bad for a lot of these characters, and then remember what degens and shitty people most of them are. It's almost like it's written from a female perspective at times. Especially since most of their decisions are their fault, but they try to blame "other" things besides their own shitty behavior - shunning agency, essentially.
Really good acting (besides the black detective, who behaves like a total autist most of the time) but I'm also glad it was just a "one and done" series.

I'll caveat this with I haven't watched this yet and only read this thread to see if I should, but this seems a lot like Jason Bateman's MO lately. Just shows about total pieces of shit. Like he's either trying to absolve himself of some personal guilt, or admit it, or live out his deepest vices.

These aren't even vices, it's just pure bullshit degeneracy. Even the "hetero" portions of the show are fucked up kinks, not anything normal. All the people here are fucked up, there's no payoff at the end, it just sucks.
Completely don't understand the point of this show. I fast forwarded through most of the last 2 episodes. I think I missed a 5 minute conversation about old playgirl pictures where 2 dudes in their underwear were looking at the other dudes dick pics and commenting.
If there's some reason you should watch this, I don't know what it is.

In a show with a largely white cast the wise black woman gives white people permission to be massive degenerates. Everybody's doing it. Crazy weird shit in every house in America. You'd be weird not to like the old detective who likes bras. Just bras? You fucking dinosaur. No one's normal. It just looks that way from across the street and we're going to repeat that a bunch of times.
"The male loneliness epidemic as framed for a female audience" was one description I saw that made some sense. Like those gay animes and mangas with a female target audience.

the point is to normalize degeneracy and weaken western cultural norms that create strong societies, same with 90% of all corpo media entertainment. This is just a particularly egregious example doable nowadays because all the propaganda work that laid the foundation the last few decades, making it so this trash is commonplace water cooler talk in churches and hr departments
