Techland moves up Dying Light: The Beast launch following huge demand

And yes this is the would-be official DL2 DLC that has been repurposed by Techland to be a stand-alone game that is now based on DL1.

The main character has been changed to DL1 story. This is a continuation of DL1 using the best of DL2 with all the issues DL2 had removed.

Added to my future buy list based on strong reviews and taking a look at the gameplay improvements.

It's not a Day 1 for me because of backlog but everything seems to check out with the reviews. It's an 8/10 for fans of the Dying Light franchise.

Some friends of mine have also decided to go back and check out all the changes to DL2 that have been made over the years because they were having so much fun with The Beast-- they missed how simple and easy the DL2 parkour is comparatively. While that sounds like a negative (who the fuck would want to play DL2 you might be wondering) there are actually a massive amount of changes that have occurred to DL2 since launch.

That The Beast was able to get people playing in the DL world again and interested in checking DL2 is a testament to how solid The Beast is. People are feeling reinvigorated about the future of the franchise overall, which is a good thing.

I still haven't picked up the second one and I'm pretty sure I asked about whether or not it was worth it in the past. I love the first one. It was such a fun game but I just didn't like the way the second looked.

Maybe this Christmas sale I'll go ahead and pick up this on the second one. Probably need a replay through the first one, especially with my new rig.

I honestly want to play Dead Island again, because I've also got the second one and I remember playing it multiplayer with some of my buddies, and we had a hell of a lot of fun. Got to be the Texas football player dude for the crazy throwing ability!

I really liked the 1st one, never could get into the 2nd one. Tried like 3 times with no luck. Not sure about this ...I have a huge backlog myself.

Yeah I just looked at the second one when it came out and it didn't have me as interested as the first one did based on reviews and trailers and whatnot. The first one was great because it was just such a novel concept and I thought it was really well done.

I know the second had a lot of problems upon release, but some of the guys on here have said it's better now. That's why I figured I might check it out on a deep dive sale.

I'm honestly to the point where unless you think it's going to be a knock out of the park amazing game like BG3 or Mass Effect, I'll typically wait for a holiday steam sale.

Definitely not getting it at $60, it sounds like it should have been about a $40 release.

Sounds about right. It's significantly smaller than DL2 and DL1-- making it difficult to justify full box price, despite being the best of both.

Many people moved on to DL2 again after Beast, due to it's sheer amount of content at this point for a fresh playthrough.

Chinese Lawan was surprising. Recently added in 2025 patch earlier this year.

Wow, I had no idea they added a skin to replace one of the worst facial scans in gaming history with something you can actually stand to look at. Maybe I will give DL2 another shot after all. Been thinking about it ever since they made Bloody Ties free and supposedly fixed a bunch of other shit I couldn't stand when the game was new but never got around to it.

I warmed up to the Lawan story as I got further along, but it was always jarring how ugly they made her.

It's noted that after DL2 launched Tencent purchased 64% of the company. Chinese Lawan is a direct intervention from Tencent. Would have liked to see them just fix the existing Lawan, but Tencent only cared about addressing the problems with the Chinese market. I'll take it.
