I started watching Beau is Afraid last night, was hesitant because I knew it wasn't his typical horror deal, but it's actually pretty good, but way different than his other films so far. God damn thing is 3 hours or so, and I think I only have an hour left.

If Aster is making a western horror film, then I'm excited. Ari Aster, Ben Wheatley, Oz Perkins, and Robert Eggers are doing some of the best stuff out there, specifically when they hit the horror genre.

Thanks Bandwagon Bandwagon this slipped past my radar.

I guess the only horror elements revolve around modern day politics and the collapse of the US?

I appreciate you posting the trailer but I'm not as excited for this one as I once was.

I'm sure it'll be an okay movie, but I don't like the fact that he's straying away from pure horror. I'm probably watch it one day but I mind going to the goddamn theater for it.

I guess it's about a political race? I don't really know either. I'm just wondering if there's any horror elements other than societal decay. Figured it would probably throw you for a loop of somehow there was a supernatural element in there, but I don't think we're going to get that

Saw it today at a film festival. The pace of the plot keeps us engaged through the 2h30 duration, but the satire suffers from what I would call the GTA effect : everyone is dumb, corrupt, hypocritical or a mix of the above (with the exception of one secondary character). That does not make for very interesting or subtle satire, it's not that effective comedy and it hurts the plot when the viewer roots for no one. The last stretch also boost the dumb-dumb to 11.

In an attempt to maybe send everyone back to back, the sheriff does get covid AND there is some super secret governmental conspiration to manipulate people... very dumb. True ending should have been Butterfly solving the case and with him having somehow reason win in the end.
