I'll probably be skipping this one, as well. I do like Alex Garland movies but I don't like video game to movie adaptations.
Some exceptions are Mortal Kombat (1995), Lara Croft (2001), and Resident Evil (2002). But I wonder how much of my appreciation of those films is pure nostalgia and not due to quality.

Those were all video games based on movies though. Bloodsport, Raiders of the lost ark, and night of the living dead, so in a roundabout way they're just remakes of well known IP.

So many focus on who is directing in these video game adaptations but IMO, it's way more about the writing and the casting as to whether or not it's worth a shit.
That very well may be true for all movies but specific to these types, they get them both completely wrong the vast majority of the time.
I'm rooting for them to get it right for this one though.

It's also too bad they can't make a stipulation that in order to be cast in the movie, you had to have played the game previously. Cavill of course being a prime example.

I mean, you're definitely not wrong. But as much as people might fantasize about her responding to that potential scene with "Awesome! I've always wanted to go completely nude in front of the camera", it's quickly replaced with the much more likely response of "and that's where the CGI comes in, right?"
