Yeah I think there is a possibility this server is not that popular. Sounds great on paper, loot pinata, loads of EXP. But at some point these TLPs have become saturated, it's a small market, not bringing in new players, the existing player base shrinks every year. They nickel and dime the shit out of people. It's really not a sustainable type of thing, at least the way daybreak does it. I think it will have a "large" population though, and I think it's entirely possible daybreak rigged the truebox vote themselves to ensure that everyone can box on the server, may not be more players but there will definitely be more subs than fangbreaker.

EQL won't have a whole lot of traction. Sure it will be extremely popular at launch but with their being a subscription fee, microtransactions, classic only (aka no content) it doesn't have the legs to compete with frostreaver or lethar. Granted frostreaver is shit too but the server gets better once we get pop and 4/8 unlock cadence starts.
Beta will be taking place during frostrever's launch, which will be free. Not really following the point about microtransactions considering TLP's do the same thing. Hard to really assess their capability of releasing more content to keep people engaged as there's been no mention of that timeline as far as I know. Either way, they will be contesting each other for the player base's attention for the first couple of months.

I'd give Lethar's release timing better chances at succeeding, but that's relies on the player base to buy into a TSS start.

Yep. And, here's the thing. After our last attempt to go back, both my brother and I said the same thing, "I can't believe we used to find this fun."

When you get right down to it, EverQuest really didn't have THAT much going for it other than nostalgia. They had two and a half decades to add meaningful additions to the game. Instead, they regurgitated the same content year after year with slightly higher hit points, mana, and ac.

After you take a step back, allow the nostalgia glasses to fall off, and take a real honest look at the game, EverQuest is a very, very shallow game with little more to do than grind levels, alternate advancement points, and gear. That's it. Nothing more... just three basic things you see in just about every single MMORPG made since.

Where EverQuest could have shined was elaborating on what made it special; character interdependence in groups and raids. They could have further refined the game to allow users to play multiple characters WITH OUT using 3rd party software. Instead, they shoved their collective heads in the sand and pretended that nobody used 3rd party software to run their own groups and insisted that a nearly 30 year old game still has a massive vibrant player base that can easily put groups together of necessary classes all played by individuals.

Like it or not, EverQuest is a super shallow game that only exists to this day because people like us won't let it die even though we all talk about how much we fucking hate what it has become.

My last trip down nostalgia lane showed me that. There's way better options out there in the MMORPG space.

Put the nostalgia glasses away, say your goodbyes, and let it die already. I only pray that the majority of the losers that caused the innevitable death of EQ at SoE/DBG/DPG never get in positions of making meaningful decisions for other MMORPGs. If anything they have proved, it is that they have no right to be in the industry. Don't get me wrong, there have been and still are some damn good people working on EverQuest, but those people generally are not the ones making the decisions.

The decision makers are the problem. Looking at you Jchan. Looking at you.
You didn't mention why I liked EQ so much and what kept me coming back. It was the world of Norrath. I liked the lore, races, the gear, and the zones. I didn't give a shit about the people or the guild in the years I played the game. The whole reason I started playing the game was LoTR came out in theaters and I wanted to live it and EQ was the closest version of that back then.

I think Lethar's success depends on how good their personal loot system is. I'll prob run with a group of friends when i'm not raiding on frostreaver but if anything it should be fun doing the whole TSS leveling route.

Something like EQL doesn't interest me at all. This isn't aporia and co, it isn't THJ and people going into it expecting it to be THJ are going to have a rude awakening.

Frostreaver isn't any better. It's a garbage server for the first 9 months but it will eventually be the best server to play on due to all the special rulesets. We just have to wait for the real 4/8 week unlock cadence to start.

I loved how I was generally rewarded for exploring. Accidentally finding Kedge Keep's underwater entrance when they added water breathing stones to my magician was really awesome. I knew something was up with the exp there, because 1 fish kill felt like killing 3 mobs up topside for exp (yay ZEM).

I have no idea how people keep coming back to these servers though.. blech.

Other than maybe Niente and Meeko all these fuckin people need to go. Even if that means the game dies because they can't replace them. If it dies, it dies. What a fuckin joke.

DBG just fully embracing pay-to-win, lol. Forget about grinding to level - just give us more money and we'll make you whatever level you want!

What's weird is the response on the forums: there basically isn't one. You'd think at least some people would be screaming about this but there's less than a dozen comments referring to it and none of them are negative.

Seems the EQ fan base just no longer gives a shit.

They've already removed anyone who would argue against this from the forums.

and nobody really gives a shit anymore. At this point they should sell a potion that caps level/AA's and gives you best in slot gear for the expansion for TLP's. Set it up as an option two weeks into the expansion. Make it $99.00. They could rake in the money then.

This. The directive to their community team is to eradicate all of the detractors on the forums and Discord.

It won't be long after the negative feedback starts popping up in the EQL Discord that the same is happening there either.

you realise this was effectively in the game the last decade with organised pl groups?

there releasing potions because the pl groups rely on MQ, a tool thats going away. Means people who want to be PL'd dont need to leave there pc on for 4+ hours and is a way more reliable process.

All these companies need to ditch selling cosmetics and pay2win stuff and just raise the sub price to 24.99/29.99. The MMO community pushed back harder than any other niche gaming market when it came to this shit. Now they are litterally surviving off of whales. And the pod is getting fucken old. It's hard for me to see how these companies can reverse the damage thats been done. They should of started raising sub prices 20 years ago.
