So quick question. Why would there be a land rush?
The Landmarks are supposed to be the trade hubs (i.e. the local place where you can put trade offers I presume), so proximity to them is a good factor. In addition, ressources are unevenly distributed, so certain plots may have that rare special tier 5 diamond marble thing that every palace builder needs. If you sit on it, you're the one who can sell it.

But resources can be depleted right? So basically your land resources are finite? Because if resources regenerate than that would be one huge advantage to pick a rich land plot.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I remember hearing someone say that resource will randomly appear in any place? (taking into account its logical biome of course).

Apparently not (as far as we know), but each area has specific resources.

It might be that resources are more or less evenly spread all over a biome, even the rare ones, but with different biomes having different rarer resources, in which case it doesn't matter, resource-wise, where you place your plot within a biome; only the choice of biome affects stuff (you don't get diamond marble unless you're settled in an Extreme Hills biome, but it's available anywhere in that biome if you can dig to tier 5). The plot remains nice to have next to the Landmark for trading, but it is not a critical pick (pun not intended).

Hopefully they arrange it akin to EVE, where extreme distance from the hubs results in much higher resource density. So you lose time trafficking product to the hub, but you gain time acquiring the goods. This also allows trafficking to become a role in the economy if teleportation is kept at a low level, like EVE. So if I'm 2 hours transit from the closest landmark I'm sitting next to an emerald mine, the product of which all priests need for high end equipment. Either I generalize and harvest, refine, and traffic, and retail my own goods, or I specialize in harvesting and necessitate refining/trafficking specialists to take on the other roles to bring the product to market.

They need to enable PVP for that 2 day land rush head start for alpha folks. Pick axe in the back........
If you think a bit outside the box, you can already have PVP in the game without actually allowing direct player on player combat.

Very interested in this game and intend to check out the livestream today, but I still haven't pulled the trigger on alpha...might end up waiting until beta...we'll see.

I recently opted to cash out on a vacation in March instead of a founder's pack. Might still grab one of the alpha packs for the goodies, but I've got much Spanish to learn (among other details to address) between now and March, and I'm starting to doubt that I'll actually play much during the alpha period.

They just said that mining damage will slowly heal up, so I don't think the "claims for limited resources" thing will be too huge.

e: claims won't heal, so you can't use them to mine, I'm guessing.

-claims only last for active players

-there will be limited claims on each area/continent so that it's not ugly urban sprawl

Also confirmed is able to own multiple claims for in game currency, or station cash option.

EQL is sounding more and and more fun to me , while EQN still is meh at best.

It'll be interesting to see if some dedicated group of modders takes the EQL tools and actually makes a world that trumps SOE's own EQN population and critique/review-wise.

I could easily see players making better stuff then SOE. This is where the good business decision comes in, going to have players who paid to alpha/beta test, while you take anything really good and use it in your MMO that is still years away.

Oh agreed on specific items , buildings etc also. I just meant it would be amusing to see a group of folks who had the time to put into a full blown world/sphere (whatever they want to call it ) , that ends up with more people and more well received than their professionally produced and ran EQN.
