Nikita has said repeatedly he wants the game to be extremely hardcore, and tbh with how much they've made from box sales over the years I don't think their audience is going to get much better even with 1.0

I think he wants it to be more tactical and less COD and in the past several wipes it's been going more towards COD. All the most watched players just run around hipfiring high RPM rifles and shit like it's Warzone rather than taking smart angles. The kids also love that shit so it's probably growing Tarkov's base because the slow paced tactical base is mostly 30+ year old men and that's just because of games like PUBG and original CS. There won't be another generation looking for slow tactical gameplay in games for a while, if ever.
At some point in the wipe it just becomes click the button to get your 5-6 armor, 250k 41 recoil gun, 5 helmet, 4 mask, and 5-6 pene ammo over and over until your 40 million roubles are gone. It's definitely fine mid-late wipe, but some chads are doing this shit like 1 week in and just erasing anyone who's still level 18 using fucking PP ammo and 4 rigs.

I was able to log in and play through the launcher, but yeah can't log into the website to claim my twitch drops or the like.

Its fine. I ended up just starting up a SPT server with Project Fika (multiplayer). Doesnt have the new map changes for interchange but most of the weapons etc.. have been back ported into it. Me and a few friends have been enjoying it more than the official EFT PVE due to all the mods/QOL stuff you can add to SPT.

It's still EFT which means it's still janky fucking garbage and PVE is even jankier, but yeah SPT is definitely better than live PVE. You can just go with QoL mods or you can go with all sorts of crazy shit like adding UNTar patrols and Black Division as just random map spawns. Or in my case, between the garbage coding of ambient sound by BSG and tinnitus I finally gave in and installed an audio accessibility mod that adds visual indicators to indicate sound direction. They're a bit too good compared to a normal working set of ears but it's about the only way the game is playable for me. The final straw that made me install it was when I was crouched behind a shipping container on Interchange and the 3 man PMC team I was crouched and actively listening for walked right up to within a couple meters of me without ever making a sound that I could hear.
Bots have some annoying as shit behavior even with the AI improvements via mods like SAIN and APBS but at least I never have to wonder about cheaters. Also live PVE is an extra 30 bucks whereas SPT just requires the base game.

It's great for no cheaters, and roaming 4 man death squads. The ai is a very mixed bag, potato most times, but a lot of the pmc ai will just pull off stupid snap headshots. And they dont really roam so always at the same places. I enjoyed it for just pushing through all the quests I never did in live before next wipes hit.
Most will say go with the independant SPT mods that fix/do some good things but I couldn't be bothered, I checked out pretty much regardless after 4-5 years.
PVE is included if you already had the max edition

SAIN makes the enemy AI center their aim cone on center mass but funny things still happen, like the time Glukhar wiggle-peek head-eyes'd me from a window on the third floor of black bishop when I was on top of dome.
