I've loosely followed the dev diaries. It feels like it's going to be a markedly different game than EU4. I'm hopeful the extra complexity feels meaningful and not just even more buttons to click.

have to admit that I'm a bit nervous they are merging too much of crusader kings and victoria into eu4.

Everything I'm seeing looks good. I especially like the pop management and goods addition. EU4's early game is where its best, so extending it out will do the game a lot of favors.

That said, I'm an experienced paradox game player at this point. I'm fully aware some of these systems will blow chunks at first until fixed.

i think i may pick t his up, with this release. I have played zero of these games in teh past but i'm roundly disgusted by how other grand stratigy/civ games have gone in the last...few iterations.

I feel like I'd have to go through an autism sports training montage to be able to go from civ to this

I'm starting to feel that this game might be another Crusader Kings 2 for me but I will buy it anyway.

Like people throwing handfuls of marbles on floor and making you count them in seconds?

EU4 is a 14-year-old game. If they didn't do DLCs, I'm sure we would just get a Madden like stream of new releases. It's not reasonable to expect them to continually support the game for 14 years without new revenue. Are the DLCs always appropriately priced? No, but I think they've generally been worth it, but then again I played it a lot. The subscription option is a great choice for people who just want to play a few months every few years.

When I first started watching the streams of this game I thought it might actually make blobbing harder, which I kind of looked forward to, but now that I've watched almost everybody's videos and follow-up videos, I am definitely worried that the AI is way too dumb and that blobbing will be too easy. There's simply nothing like overextension or governing capacity that limits you. The rebels seem less frequent and easier to kill than the ones in Eu4. There's no separatism. It's true that a lot of the land you get will be essentially useless but your power base will slowly grow. I have my concerns that AI won't be able to blob in the way end game Ottomans or Austria or Spain do in EU4. Or, just as bad, you get so strong in the first hundred years It's a foregone inclusion what will happen even if other countries eventually consolidate and become big.

A lot of the new systems actually seem pretty cool but I have such strong doubts they can make the AIs use them correctly.

I had almost a 1000 hours in EU4 in the base game, then in first few expansions but then they hit on the Paradox version of Live Service where they kept adding and changing the game mechanics constantly with the expansions, and I got sick of having to learn the game constantly from what it felt like was the ground up with every release.

I'm excited for them to start over and have a grace period before they start to Paradox this game in the same way.

I own all the DLCs but i cant complain too much. i got thousands of hours of enjoyment out of the game.

My Eu4 interest goes in spurts, so I dont see myself buying all the DLCs again. I'll just do a season pass whenever the urge strikes me.
