PVP can be annoying sometimes, but imo the MOBA comparison doesnt really hold water. For me at least pvp is just as much about doing the normal MMO things with the threat of pvp as it is about running around pwning newbs. That sense of danger makes what is normally a fucking snoozefest into something engaging and if im not paying attention I am punished for it, vs in PVE where the only challenge is herding your average imbecile group members into assisting and not doing dumb shit.
I'll give this game credit. Even when I'm horribly outmatched, I take a while to die. A group attacked me, and I had time to get off an AE earthquake and at least stun/annoy them for 3 seconds :p I love the longer TTK.

I intend to give this a fair shot in a good guild assuming I can find one. But with stayover shifts at work, I can't poopsock like all the kids, and will be behind the leveling curve.

I rerolled from PVP server to PVE, seems much more active and the community is friendlier - surprisingly high levels of neckbeard aggression on the PVP server, considering how old the average player must be.

My biggest beef with the game is that the mob population is nothing like it was in the original game, and there's no corpse shards, or whatever the ghost you left behind you died was called - makes going deep into a tough dungeon much less thrilling.

EQ pvp (both here and R99) has a pretty steep Asperger/Healthy-well-adjusted-adult ratio. It takes a special kind of snowflake to enjoy the community imo

I could get behind the shards, but not the group shared debt. That was ridiculous.

Is there no diminishing returns on CC? Every time I'm jumped its the same (even when its like 6 vs me) 1) CC me for 10 seconds 2)nuke 3)Oh you have control of your character? Have another stun for 10 seconds

The good news is that pumice stones cure like everything and you get 50 on newb island... the bad news is after that 50 they are 6 gold each. Also after cc wears off there is an immunity timer, but there are multiple kinds of cc (mez, stun, stifle, daze)

Started a PVE wiz (Kreugen) because who the fuck knows why. Will need a weekend warrior guild I guess since I'm still active in WoW.

I have a bunch of left over SC, do these mounts just scale with level/quality? Is there anything else worth buying?

I died a few times on noob isle. Even had to duo the final instance. So I guess they did do some tuning.

Fuck fp/commonlands though, I went to neriak/darklight. I have no nostalgia for zones that sucked donkey shit, heh.

I assume eq2i is the most up to date place to figure out how the game works now?

Don't waste SC on a mount, you get a free one in DLW from the quests. just a horse, but also just as fast.

There is only about one group who has hit 50 on pve side that I know of unless Calbiyum and friends have. I know he was pretty close yesterday.

Hit me up on PvE, I'm Greene :p Also same name on the PvP server, but that place is dead to me now! lol...

No rerolled guild that I know of, so I joined a random spam one. After a quiet evening of leveling, I was startled to hear clear voices over Guild voice chat. Good quality for in game voice.

A few 50's as of now. 1-2 guilds will be raiding by weekend. (PVE)

They really dialed back the xp..it wasn't like 2004, but close.

That hell grind to 12 so you can start dungeon groups tho.

EDIT: Also, got a drop for a spell I didn't have... so I guess there are some that you have to buy off the trainer? Are there others that are crafter only?

Ya, you get all your spells for free at apprentice level automatically straight to your spell book as well as auto upgrading what is on your hotbars (but not what is in any macro keys you have set up). From drops you can get adept versions (slightly better), and the rare drops of Master upgrades. Keep in mind you can also get Grandmaster versions of certain abilities every 9? levels. On my coercer for example I picked a mez that was good up past lvl 50 mobs so I use that version instead of the actual higher level spell now. Selling/Trading masters will be a thing.

Crafting: You get crafting recipe drops as well but most groups I was in did not roll on those and it went as part of the round robin loot so you get whatever. Other groups may roll on those as well..not sure.

p.s. I'm a noob that never played eq2 before, so take everything I say as a new player just figuring it out as I go.

No apparently a few years back they stopped auto-granting certain spell lines before level 20 to "avoid confusion."

The spells they chose to leave out? Taunts, deaggro, threat transfer, etc.

I assume, but have not confirmed, that these are among the ones you can find on your trainer. Or maybe they all just appear when you hit 20.

So the first time I saw my interrupt+detaunt (why is this the same spell, WTF?) was when the adept dropped.

I dont know if it is still in game, but in early PVP days ( KOS ) there was a fence or something that would appear in antonica and CL. We would escort people to that vendor to buy stuff because if they got ganked, they lost plats.

I looted 10 pp off someone around there once, kinda felt bad. ( back then that was a decent amount of coin ).
