Why would this not just be included with access?

What I've taken from their comments is that its a fork of some iteration of a live build that they've retrofitted to be as close to classic as they can possibly get it.

People have been asking for a TLP without krono for as long as TLPs and krono. If they play no role in this more people will like that than don't.
There will still be RMT, it'll just be old school RMT like the classic days with zero protection for the buyers. :D

I am guessing they are not using krono because their company is circling the drain and they don't want more liabilities on the books when they try to juice up the numbers for the inevitable sell off.

People in the thread like 'wow I never tried THJ and this sounds great' are not serious people. This is a genre of autistic nostalgia famers, how could you have not played THJ? Who cares what you think? The entire population of TLP/emu players is a few thousand they just get shuffled around between whatever is available. There is not and will never be a new influx of players when the only bait is 'classic 1999 graphics and gameplay'.

I never had a problem with Secrets and they are obviously technically smart, but part of what made THJ successful was that it didn't cater to the p99/fte retards and would do things you know that the 'traditional' emu community and DBG would never do. The things that made THJ so successful are not palatable to a large company and putting it in the hands of the same 'traditional' emu community that continuously failed to find success is not a recipe for excellence.

I wish Secrets luck because I feel like they are at least a better steward of the IP than DBG could ever be, but let's be honest. This project will always have an asterisk on any 'success' because of the obviously shitty way it was handled. A way that is obvious to 90% of the players who are interested in this style server and were there to watch it all go down. The remainder will check it out for a month or something, but from what I can sense online, the core audience they were hoping to capture is disgusted atm.

Did they actually mention xp pots? I know Secrets said there would be no buying 'power', but esp in the p99 community, xp pots are haram. Who exactly is their audience?
Well on the Quarm server Secrets ran xp pots were handed out like candy. It seemed like every other week was a bonus xp week as well.

If it wasn't for catching an open test weekend on Evercraft/Adrullan, which gave some nostalgia for EQ, I would have never found out about THJ until the lawsuit either. The thread for it on this forum was hidden in a sub-forum I never really visited (because there be autistic dragons) and I stopped caring about EQ when LDoN was released shortly before Vanilla WoW came along (which was better in every single way).

I guess I'll be the contrarian here and say I don't mind paying a subscription at all. I didn't stop playing EQ live and start playing the emulators back in 2004 because of the subscription cost. It was simply that Live no longer offered what I was looking for.

My gaming budget these days is practically nothing. $10-$15 a month wasn't that bad back in 1999. In 2026 it's change in the couch cousions.

Hopefully it's like a 20 dollar purchase and a 5 to 10 dollar sub. If it's 40 dollars and $15 a month, I think that's definitely a bit much for what I'd assume the initial longevity of the game has.

The subscription model is a double edge sword that in when the games good they're getting money to make it better, but when the games bad they're not getting shit. MTX and exp pots/pet naming shit or whatever will kind of undue that balance if they can sit on their laurels during a down period and just shit out sparkle armor that people buy for $45 like most games do.

I need to defecate in a sock in order to obtain my sparkle armor and other people buying it invalidates my existence. Only half joking, I hate cosmetics for $$$. I get it, but I really dislike the model

Its just dumb not to have it on all access. Is double dipping really worth it? When you could have them come over, try and and if they have fun, spend $. Especially for a company that isnt doing all that well, going all in on the greed seems like such a silly move. More so as they are also going to have a "Box" price.

This is their first attempt of a completely new revenue stream outside of the traditional EQ pipeline. They need to know if this semi-leasing of IP is worth it or not without the millions of krono or whatever floating around muddying the waters. They need to know Yes/No does this make money by itself.

I think you are giving them too much credit, and its just maximum greed. But that may be the pessimist in me, more so when it comes to corporations.

Outside of the elderly ~500 multiboxers who still play live for some ungodly reason, Everquest has been dead. Fan-made servers have kept EQ alive. There is no TLP without P99. There certainly is no "Everquest Legends" without THJ. I happily played and paid for all of these iterations until now: This could have been a win for everyone, but they got greedy.

I will not give this company any more money after the THJ lawsuit. This blatant pimping out of the corpse for profit just makes that decision easier.

And yeah, yeah. They own the IP, got it. I'm sure nobody here ever downloaded a CD or streamed a movie illegally.
