Yep. Here's a job posting for an entry-level software engineer position

Meanwhile....

You aren't re-architecting anything with developers that will take a salary that's a 1/3rd of their peers.
Yeah they are literally looking for nothing more than a slightly-better-than intern. No serious programmer will work for that little, and especially not in California where that won't even pay rent.

I honestly believe that its time for Everquest to make a major change to the game client in order to make it sustainable as a MMORPG going in to the next decade.

There is no getting around the fact that Everquest is designed around the concept of playing as a group. It worked absolutely brilliantly for many, many years. What it has become after over two and a half decades, with the player population going down over time, is the majority of it's players running their own groups.

It's a group-based game. No getting around that.

Let's not fool ourselves into believing that the vast majority of players actually group up with OTHER players to play the game. The only place that happens on a regular basis is on new TLP servers.

One of two things needs to happen in Everquest to set it up for another couple decades of success.

  1. Integrate boxing software into the actual game client rather than pretending you don't know everyone is using 3rd party software to box until you need a reason to get rid of someone who upset one of your GM's friends
  2. Change the game client to let you control between 1 to 6 characters (across 1 to 6 accounts) within ONE Everquest game client. This would include expanding on the in-game macro system to add commands for the various characters you are playing on that same game client (ex. be able to create a macro hotbar button that instructs your healer character to cast a particular heal spell on your tank character and so on)
Now, will they do it? No. DBG has shown over the past decade that they put in minimal development into anything they do for EverQuest. So... it won't happen.

Just my two coppers...

Yeah, I recently hopped on an emulator that has a macroquest thing all setup for it. No absent gameplay, but I can play my tank and the rest of the group does their thing based on how I setup the ini. Blows fuckin isboxer out of the water. I'm gonna have a hard time going back to isboxer on the tlp this year.

Have not played EQ since PoP. If I wanted to get a nostalgia hit and check out zones and solo old raid bosses. Could I just subscribe and buy a heroic character to do this? And what would be the best class or way to do this? Also is there a way to play with the OG character models still and not the Luclin redesigned ones?

Anniversary stuff is going on right now, if you log in for the next week or so, and have a sub you get a free level 115 heroic.

Yeah it's a pretty good time to pay for a sub. btw you have until April 20th to take advantage of it.

A Level 115 Heroic Character (One per account; available until April 20, 2026, at 11:00 p.m. PT) ** For more information on this, go HERE.

I'm planning on popping some krono in a couple of weeks to get some fresh heroics that I've got to get ready for when I play SoR later this year.

I was holding off until this new TLP comes out (May I think?) but sounds like it might be worth spinning up just for the heroic character at least.

Is there any server forum bros are gravitating to? I'm normally on luclin/veeshan but I haven't played in ages and sold my last accounts so starting fresh and not particularly tied to any server anymore. Don't see myself playing live all that much though either, way too much has happened and probably best to progress naturally with a TLP for it.

Not really. I'm on Bristlebane in a large guild (Ring of Valor) and can recommend both the server and the guild. But I'm not playing regularly.

I started playing again mid February, on Bristlebane. Got to reading about the new TLP, which I've never done before so started on Oakwynd about a week ago. Got to 60, then on Thursday I joined a mostly Euro guild. They PL'd me to 90, and let me get some rot raid gear. Oakwynd goes to Veil of Alaris on Friday, so cap will go up to 95. It's low pop, so it's pretty rare to see people outside of PoK/guild lobby. There may be an increase for a bit on Friday. Economy isn't great. The only people I see in /barter are a couple of guys buying Krono. At least on Bristlebane, you could sell all the trade skill stuff.

Is a Krono month good enough for these heroics or has to be all access?
Like Arbitrary says a krono is fine. I don't know of any reward granted to someone who pays $ that isn't granted for popping a krono.

Well this seems newsworthy. No more macroquest on live/test?

no more macroquest from them doesnt mean no more macroquest
In response to people claiming they would pick up the torch, the mq dev's response was basically "lol k goodluck"

Whatever it was that dbg changed over the last few patches caused enough bullshit to get them to the point of throwing in the towel. Not saying it's impossible for private builds to continue to exist, but when the 3 main distribution points are removed out of the equation it's as close to a dead project as it can be. I've only seen two publicly say they were attempting to fill their void, but were attempting it most through AI and the results were...not good.

Players who cried about widespread mq use for decades will finally get the utopia they craved, but I believe they'll soon find out it will come at a great cost.

The people at redguides are working on it. They're selling $10 subs and $50 a year for mq plug-ins, seems likely they'll find someone, but we'll see. Though, I wouldn't put it past DPG to set this up themselves, make a box friendly server, with their own macro quest type software, $15 a month addon fee. The company seems to be willing to do anything to keep the money coming in.

There is one true big dawg when it comes to the home brewed hax. Not some copy paster wannabe like Tyen or spreader of another man's work like Jupe.

Seek out "Dr. Gotcha". I've seen him break Marvel Rivals (mentioned first ofc) and Pantheon dev teams balls many times over. When Visionary Realms banned him, he got into their shit and literally unbanned himself. I wish I was making up a Sox story here. In all my years I've never seen one as good as him.

That being said, cheating at video games should result in damage to a business civil liability. I fucken hate cheatin clowns. Back in the arcade days the gang woulda thrown someone like that out themselves with the blessing of obese long haired coin dispenser man.

I'd fully expect Sic and Red to give their users a glimmer of hope to prevent the bleeding of subs for as long as possible. As I said before, there is the slim possibility that someone could continue the updates but that doesn't also guarantee they would be publicly accessible or through RG.

Braniac's assessment is that DBG made a substantial effort to include more detection methods and into making it extremely painful to update to the point where updates that usually took minutes/hours started to take days (somewhat convenient timing considering who they just partnered with). For anyone that's followed his work overtime you'd know that if he's noping out then it's a hard sell to believe some rando is going to fill his shoes.

You mean they can't just find a couple of street shitter's with software engineering degrees from the university of shit street to get this done for $20 an hour?

As someone within the space, its much easier to be a vibe coder and defend your product against things like macroquest now than it used to be actively having to investigate ways of prevention.

Judging by the incompetence of darkpaw in the last 5 years, i can only assume they basically copy and paste there whole repo's in claude and hope for the best.
