At the beginning of Evil Dead Rise they did the title card with the girl who became a Deadite and killed her friends at the lake
She is responsible for the Deadites in this film and it’s not really a spoiler. it’s not what the movie is about but the personality of the Deadites in this are a result of her summoning them instead of a dumb human who does then proceeds to get fucked with by them as seen by Ash etc in generally a dark comedic way (usually except say the fused Deadite in rise wasn’t funny except seeing it get tossed in the wood chipper was funny)
These fuckers are mean. Like really mean. This is a mean spirited film and it’s relentless and gory and brutal and no one kid to adult to pet is spared. Bring Her Back + Evil Dead in spirit is the way I’d describe the tone.
the into scene and title card are A+ then in the ensuring 15 minutes I got worried. It was all setup sure but it felt like it was going to play it safe and repeat every ED movie made in most ways which can be ok but the director is known for his camera work and I expected crazy shit. After those 15ish min the movie winks at the audience and this happens
The following hour+ is a gory but most brutal Evil Dead movie ever. It makes 2013 look like Disney film. It’s stylish and people are getting fucked up hard. These Deadites are not toying around they are flat having their way with this family. The camera work is fantastic and the color tones get progressively bleaker over the film as the Deadites eyes get redder and it really fucking works
this is not a film for everyone. It’s on the Terrifer side of the spectrum without the wink and nudge of Art the Clown. This is not a

wife film. There may be 2-3 people who post here that like this shit myself included. But if you do holy shit what a ride.
Ending needed work but I liked this a lot. It was made for a person like me though and it won’t set the world on fire at the box office. I’m shocked they went the direction they did as this will be a hard sell to the early 20’s crowd that thought Obsession was gross at times. 20 minutes shorter and this would have been perfect.
so yes. Good? Yep. For everyone? Lol
As an aside my wife had a hard time with this and she is a horror fan as much as me. Even if you torrent this I’d preview this yourself before putting it on for a female horror fan. It’s hard.
