Finishing up my second vanilla run, this time with biters. Finishing up more organized this time with nuclear power and a rudimentary train network. Fucking fluids ended up a mess again and I spend way too much time dealing with biters. Figuring out what the next step up in progression is. Krastorio or Space Age DLC?
My biters Strat is rush to grenade tech and some shields. Then just grenade every nest off the map

I used LTN - Logistic Train Network but if I played again I'd check out Project Cybersyn - Logistics Train Dispatcher and use it if it's still popular.

The amount of detail that goes into railway management is so incredible in Factorio. Even after playing 1k hours I was still finding ways to condense my railway stations and make them multipurpose. I'm playing a game with base building mechanics now, Arknights: Endfield and they just teleport everything, lol.
I used Cybersyn. I think I tried LTN many years ago, by Cybersyn was significantly easier to work with.

I feel so screwed. Got to my first planet, got to the surface and am happily building a base and working toward that planets science. Go check on my space platform and its completely trashed from asteroids. no way to get back to Nauvis for repairs and reinforcement. So I'm stranded and the thought of starting back from scratch is really frustrating. Fuck me man, I don't really dig the off planet shit. Its why I always petered out on DSP. Just give me more biomes and resources on my home planet.

Is this on Space Age or the Space Exploration mod?

Space Age. I had a save shortly after arriving on the planet so i sent the platform back to Nauvis while remaining on Fulgora. It took a helluva beating getting back and I will have to redesign the whole thing from the ground up to get back into space. Total restart on Fulgora but that's ok, there are some interesting problems to solve there.

Ladies and Gentleman, we did it. HAL got the beat old up rust bucket back to the home planet. The good guys back at HQ rebuilt her while I stayed on the ground getting EM science up and running. She's a thicc bitch, but she's chewing up those asteroids like Little Debbies. Safely made it back to pick me up and also grab a nice load of pink science.

I always use filters and separate belts on my space grabbies. Otherwise the belts get loaded up with stuff I don't need 🫠

Nice. It's those triumphant returns after an unexpected setback that turn the game from simply following the recipe book into a real adventure. Congratulations.

Ya I gotta figure out a better design for the grabbies. That little sushi belt is always getting clogged.

Three belt bus on the space platform for grabbies. Ice, coal, iron. Fourth belt for ammo.

Gonna also need accumulators for this stage because the further you get from nauv the less sun you get. I think after that solar won't even work,???

The best use for Quality EVER is for the Asteroid Collectors, they get +1 ARM and a massive speed bonus per level of Quality.

Ya, I'm going back to Fulgora to play around with quality before going to Vulcanus. I want to get the rare Mech armor. Set up a recycling loop with quality mods that will eat up any quality mods that get built without rarity. Also build some rare quality mods out of the scrap circuits that get mined using quality mods, lol.

Yo dawg I heard you like quality, gotta get some quality on your quality modules so you can put quality on your scrap miners to harvest quality circuits and build more quality modules!

I haven't played Space Age but the new spaceships look like interstellar pontoon boats compared to Space Exploration ships.

2.1 plans, and Earendel's leaving Wube.

I've always kinda assumed that Earendel's time at Wube was limited and that he'd quit after Space Age developed enough for the big features he wanted in Space Exploration to be viable. His message in Discord:

I’ve decided to leave Wube. I’m really proud of what I achieved at Wube. I don’t think anyone really understands just how much of a difference I made there, and perhaps one day we can explore that iceberg, but for now there is still too much that I can’t talk about. Leaving is something that I’ve been planning for quite a while. I’m leaving because I have a lot of game ideas that I want to work on, so I’ve decided to make my own games full time. More on that below. After I gave my notice to leave Wube, a lot of the team reached out with a mixture of sadness that I was leaving, but also overwhelming support for my future endeavours. The intensity of some people’s reactions made the whole experience a bitter-sweet rollercoaster. “It’s very sad that you’re leaving, but at the same time, I think it is a great thing for the world because this means that more great games get to exist.” - that’s one of the comments that I’m determined to live up to.

Where does this leave Space Exploration? Space Exploration is still going. While I would like Space Exploration to be finished so I can focus 100% on other things, that just isn’t the case, and I’m not going to abandon it. I’ve always worked on Space Exploration in evenings and weekends around my main job, and I don’t expect that to change. If anything, this change might make working on SE easier. It is hard to describe just how much more difficult it was to work on SE while working at Wube. So much of the work on the mod feels the same as working on the base game + expansion. Doing a certain kind of work all day, then more of the same in the evening was just too motivationally draining. I should really try to take a proper vacation at some point too. It’s been years since I’ve had a break longer than about a week. Now isn’t a good time for a vacation though, because all I want to do right now is work on the new project. Working on it full time barely feels like work at all, I even want to continue in evenings and weekends so that's a good sign. I’m doing what I love.

What exactly am I working on?

Well I have just released my first YouTube video to explain what I’m doing and what my choices are. Please watch the videos if you’d like to know more. Also if you don’t mind, please like the video and make some sort of comment, that would really help me out.

Him looking to start his own games isn't tooooo surprising, I imagine he's burnt out from Factorio after doing it for nearly a decade and then doing it for a couple years during the day and at night. His two game ideas being a turn-based tactical game and a puzzle platformer is outside my desired genres, but the space seems super crowded to me. Either way I just kicked him $25 at his Patreon https://www.patreon.com/cw/earendel

He owes me nothing, but I really hope he gets Space Exploration "done" by the time he goes deep on another project. I've only had two Factorio saves, one was brief pure vanilla run I ended after launching my first rocket and the other was the 1100 hour monstrosity that was Krastorio2 + Space Exploration. I think the only thing that could get me to play a third is a finished Space Exploration.

Yeah, I'd like to do an updated SE, so maybe that's closer. I tried Nullius and got like 70 hours in before I gave up. It was just way too much juggling. Every little thing you make gets reused in future recipes and it just became a giant clusterfuck of belts and pipes (I also hate that pipes are super limited on length without a pump of some kind).
