He saw her multiple times and corresponded with her via email. While it's not impossible that she had a pimp who managed her internet persona and just drove her to calls, it seems far more likely that she was still living at home, turning tricks without mom and dad knowing. I can't imagine the kind of pimp who would buy a trafficking victim would have time to micromanage her that closely, or let her have a long enough leash to do outcalls at the Plaza and the Ritz Carlton. We're not talking Jared going into some nasty incall at a rundown apartment building or hotel in some shitty neighborhood in Brooklyn, this girl was visiting him at luxury hotels in Manhattan.

It's still early, so we don't have the full story, but I think Jared's probably a pedophile. It sounds like he may not have molested/raped a pre-teen, but he was headed in that direction. The employee was the head of some sort of charity group in Jared's name that focused on helping children. The state alleges that employeeproducedchild porn and shared it with Jared. Jared had other child porn on top of that. This was pre-teeen stuff. I've seen it reported that Jared arranged to have sex with a seventeen year old and then offered to pay her to bring him willing younger girls, telling her the younger the better. Jared also agreed to pay fourteen victims/accusers $100,000 each in restitution as part of his plea deal. I assume most of those were in their late teens.

Some of the evidence is also based on recordings of conversations he had with CI's. He was openly discussing his activities with a woman who was a former reporter for fuck's sake. Those discussions were done over a 4 year period. By the time they got around to charging Jared's associate, the feds already had plenty on him as well.

Herman-Walrond told WWSB-TV in Sarasota, Florida, that she recorded her conversations with Fogle for the FBI over more than four years. The FBI in Florida did not return requests for comment. FBI Special Agent Wendy Osborne in Indiana said the agency cannot discuss "anything related to the investigation" into Fogle.

Herman-Walrond said she didn't know why Fogle would have confided in her.

"He would tell me the ages he was interested in, boy or girl," Herman-Walrond told ABC News. "He indicated the fact that he has done it before and told me in gross detail what transpired."

There's no maybe about it. Taylor was providing Fogle with the video footage he was taking of 13 and 14 year olds, as well as other child pornography involving girls as young as 6.

He wasn't banging kids, or at least there is no proof that he was. The minor he is being charged for having sex with was above the age of consent in New York. The crime he is being charged with in regards to that is 'Travel to Engage in Illicit Sexual Conduct with a Minor'. In layman terms, he's being charged for crossing state lines to have sex with a minor prostitute. He's being charged for commercial sex acts with a minor, which is a felony compared to sex with an adult prostitute which I believe is just a misdemeanor. The other charge is Distribution and Receipt of Child Pornography, he hasn't been charged with any kind of rape, statutory or otherwise.

The conviction rate for federal criminal cases is so absurdly high because they are generally so thorough in their investigative process. Besides, as has been pointed out the banging was going on with teen prostitutes above the age of consent*. If sex with underage kids had been eminent or ongoing they would have likely moved quicker to arrest him. Since it wasn't, as far as they could tell, they took the time to build their cases.

*edit: Correction, one incident was with a 16 year old and the federal law covers commercial sex acts with those under 18 years of age regardless of local age of consent.

It seems like you're having trouble understanding. There are three elements to breaking that law. You musttravel to another statetoengage in a commercial sex actwith aminor. If he had not done all three of those things, he would not have been in violation of that specific law. I don't know if there is a federal law that specifically governs a commercial sex act with a minor without crossing a state border, but 18 USC 2423 also applies to traveling into or out of the country for those purposes as well.
