i really enjoyed remake, it was awesome seeing a game i hadn't touched in 20 years brought up to modern visual standards and seeing Tifa and Aerith in full 3D made me feel things

i played rebirth like a year or two after release and thought it was just ok, i honestly have no clue what the fuck is going on with the story and whispers and multiple worlds and whatever the fuck is going on, nor do I really give a shit. i plat'd remake but nowhere near even 40% of the trophies on rebirth, just couldn't care at all. the only thing i really remember from rebirth is Tifa and Aerith in bikini costumes. fuck yeah

no chance i'll buy part 3 at release, i'll just wait and wait and wait until its cheap and run through the story although honestly just watching someone like Lirik play on twitch or youtube would be 90% as good

I will not either, don't have a PS5 so I'll have a wait and I won't pay full price. Played through 1st one on PS5, stopped 2nd one after mini-game burnout. I have them both on PC but no desire to play. Plus I am having to drag myself away from F:NV , I forgot what a well written game was like, it's digital crack!

Rebirth is so, so much better than Remake.

I say this as a big Midgar fan who wished the original had done more with it (before FF7 came out, I thought the entire game took place in Midgar, and was disappointed when we left after five hours and never saw the upper level or 80% of the overall sectors). At least Remake added a new chapter where you go to the upper level and see where the well-off people live, that part was interesting.

Rebirth though, man, it knocks the pants off of Remake, and feels like an actual remake of FF7 rather than just a padded-out, overwrought retelling of five hours of FF7. Rebirth is no joke one of the best RPGs I played in the past ten years, almost up there with Dragon Quest 11.

Surprised they added a totally-unnecessary "Reunion" subtitle to the Crisis Core remake, considering Reunion would have been the perfect title for Part 3. Wouldn't shock me if Part 3 got moved back to like 2028 at this point and was a PS6 launch game. Ideally we get it in 2027, and they do some sort of combined version of all 3 for the PS6 (where each game leads directly into the next).

A Dirge remake that fixes that game is probably out of the question at this point too. I'll just consider us lucky if we get Part 3 any time soon and it doesn't fly completely off the reservation with story changes and a hyperfixation on Cloud's mental illness. Given that they couldn't even get Aerith's death right, I expect her to be all over Part 3 as an apparition only Cloud can see, so it'll be like she never even left, completely taking away the emotional gut punch of losing her to begin with. They already botched it like that, so...yeah.

FF7 OG was about coping with loss, modern FF7 is a Marvel movie in comparison. But yeah, Rebirth was a really good time, and it was great to see places like Cosmo Canyon in full modern 3D.

I give Remake a lot of credit because it was a PS4 game and still delivered. While they still needed to account for slower loading it laid the groundwork to build on for the eventual PS5 and PC versions. The overall question is "When was the best time to do a three part remake?" because the original team isn't going to be working at Square forever and how would you squeeze the games in despite covid affecting PS5 launch and AI datacenters now massively delaying the PS6. If they had waited until PS5 dev kits existed but still used Unreal4 we may not have gotten a first game until 2023, add in Unreal5 and the first two games might have been a stuttery mess until that engine got sorted AND delayed anyways.

I hope the finale hits all the right narrative beats and the multi-platform moves a ton of units, prove that quality still wins out. Not every game has to be a 100h+ monster but some solid 50h RPGs with the same care and tech lessons learned are still desired.

AI datacenters now massively delaying the PS6.

What's this about? AI datacenters are delaying the PS6?

I've been wondering why we haven't heard anything about it, since we're like a year away from Sony's usual seven-ish year system cycle being up.

PS1 - Five years as their main system
PS2 - Seven years
PS3 - Six and a half years
PS4 - Six and a half years
PS5 - Five and a half years or so as of now

So in theory we should get PS6 in mid to late 2027, just in time for FF7 Part 3 to be in the first few months of the system.

Bloomberg had a report on it (obviously paywalled) and all the game sites have been reposting for the last week, but Sony will push PS6 to late 2028, most likely 2029. Nintendo is also considering a price raise on the Switch 2 for the same hardware reasons.

If there wasn't any issues 2027 was the expected date but they can't launch with a $1000+ price tag and massively alienate their playerbase. Means GTA6 will solidly be a PS5 game at this point too.
