It's interesting that Calyx pretty much tips us off where they are going. Assuming we can take him at his word, clearly he hopes we can thwart whoever of the Winterer's is pushing forth their plan on the 4th. So far all we know is Halmarut and one collaborating person (Calyx) from his home shard, makes sense the Au Ra with 1 eye watching the girl get dusted could be the one on/from the 4th. Strange to me that only the void (13th) had thin enough barriers to the Source for voidsent to come through. Also just how far gone that world is compared to say the 4th, or the 9th which seems like levin has basically taken over other than a few isolated communities barely surviving. I do wonder what's left to do in 5.56 for 2nd part of the MSQ. Other than just deciding to go now, and maybe (?) taking some with us if that's possible.

The general idea that without the gods, a sort of end all life calamity is inevitable if the status quo continues makes sense in a way. Not surprised the one Ascian left basically thinks any sort of heroics to save everyone on the shards, too, is foolhardy. Still, it doesn't seem like Halmarut and/or some of the Winterer's would be complete enemies to us and the idea of preserving life. At least insofar that our efforts don't interfere with whatever individual plans the Winterer's have. Calyx just being ok with us messing up his life's work comes off a little too easy. But clearly he's manipulating us to do what he wants on the 4th, seeing as how he feels our goals will align with his.

It has more to do that the 13th was primed for it, and failed because it was the first shard they tried to re-join with the source, the barrier between the Source/Shard is already weak from the first try.

Also a lot of Sin vibes, but it could still be Ultima, but Sin would be cool also.

The camera work though, they are having a lot of fun with all the new engine stuff they have added over this expansion.

The 13th has always been the closest to the Source because it was a shard that was going to be rejoined, but the rejoining failed and it became a void hellscape. As far as we know, it is the only shard where inhabitants have been able to make frequent incursions into the Source for centuries. That is one reason why I think the 13th is probably the most at risk for being the first to fall or get fucked up.

As for the Fourth, in the trailer the Au Ra dude that looks up at the sky seemingly only has 1 eye, so people are theorizing he is Odin/some Odin type stand-in given the xpac seems to have a Norse theme going on. The way Calyx also described the 4th - they made a floating civilization using great magics to escape the frozen wasteland below, makes me think of Zeal in Chrono Trigger (they floated in the sky while everyone on land froze their asses off). Makes me partially think if they decide to draw more from CT and we come to find out they are using something to power their machine that ultimately is a threat to their planet.

CT vibes are heavy, for sure. Although the "ground" in Zeal's time was supposedly still in ice age because of the destruction from Lavos' impact on the Earth. Kinda odd to think it took almost 65 million years to get out of the ice age of that. I mean Zeal is 12,000 BC, and by 600 AD the world seems pretty temperate. Little weird.

As for the 13th, they tried to rejoin the 1st as well, but Minfilia essentially saved 1/10 of the world from the flood of light. Admittedly the voidsent being the only ones to breach is a thing, although I feel like they were being summoned by mages in the past on the Source as well, might have helped thin the barrier even more. Also the 9th seems essentially primed to be rejoined, there just isn't a calamity occurring on the source to make any of these rejoinings go through. I do wonder if we eventually end up going to the 8th and 11th as well, to find them either tipped heavily towards one element primed to be rejoined or if those are relatively undisturbed so far.
