Ehhhhhh..... Looks pretty generic.

I'm kind of getting tired of the female protagonist stuck in a supernatural situation out in Europe with some dark family past or whatever.

I don't mind a female protagonist for a decent horror movie as long as the story is good, but it seems that a lot of these films always have a woman at the forefront. Maybe that's because they're supposed to be more vulnerable so it becomes more scary, I don't know.

These movies just start running together though.

If it's done by AMC+ I just pretty much write it off. They have TWD and it's 40 less than mediocre spin offs and then trash.

The character is called The Final Girl for a reason.

tl;dr viewers won't accept a man experiencing sheer terror at the climax of the movie like they will with a woman, which would undercut the suspense and purpose of it in the first place.

Obviously there is more to it, and people often want to claim a feminist agenda or other motives, but that's the biggest reason given when someone that matters really thinks about it.

EDIT: There is even a movie called that. Not to be confused with The Final Girl of the same year.

Sorry, but not sorry. I'm American and didn't know what that was the translation, it just ooks like a pretty bland movie. This coming from someone who actually enjoys a lot of European independent horror films and even the good Korean stuff.

Movie just looks forgettable.

I also understand the trope of the final girl. After all it's been a thing in decades of horror films, and like you pointed out they even made it into a movie.

Wait, I never said that's the translation! I was just saying that it is a trope for a reason is all, as I wasn't sure if you knew about it (clearly you do). I have no fucking clue what the title means.

Synopsis makes me think of two fairly recent(ish) movies and I enjoyed both of them -- Midsommar and The Ritual.

Fréwaka is not a real Irish (Gaeilge) word but seems to be a phonetic adaptation of Fréamhacha for international audiences. It might have been chosen because it is easier for non-Irish speakers to read and pronounce. So, for the Irish release, they used the authentic Irish word Fréamhacha, which translates to 'roots.'

You are missing out on some good flicks if you skip the Shudder originals.

Looking on the list of Shudder Originals I don't see anything I even recognize, let alone talked well of here.

I also wrote off AMC and haven't watched anything (other than Better Call Saul) they have made after finding TWD too ridiculous to keep watching (around season 4). Also, the midseason break bullshit continually pissed me off, so that didn't help.

I don't much like horror movies or TV shows unless they are exceptional; generally when they lean into the suspense/thriller and involve space (Event Horizon), involve space creatures (The Thing), or both (Alien(s)/Pandorum). I often wonder if it's due to having few if any superstitions, so I can't really get into it, at all. Also, characters continually doing stupid shit just so they can be put in situations so the Horror can happen to them eventually end up killing my suspension of disbelief and annoying the hell out of me.

I don't think a horror channel is for you then.

Indeed. I didn't know it was a horror channel in particular. It looked like it was owned by AMC, so it just became the AMC streaming service. Sort of like how Paramount has original programing and CBS shows at the same time.

Shudder is the horror channel owned by AMC. It's just included with AMC+ now for an extra buck.
