Episode is typical for any episode in that 2 through 8 slot in basically any season. Ain't much happening.

I appreciate Kristi incorporating my own personal excuse for people not doing shit (people who try to figure this place out die so those of us still alive don't ask questions) but unfortunately that's not really a theme present in the show. The big event to conclude the season one finale is the entire community coming together to build a radio tower.

So many red-shirts in the background of this show! That town is full of random people.

I probably should've just waited to watch once the season was over. This type of show is way too frustrating to watch week to week. Just little things like the cop who, despite finally putting on regular clothes, still wears a fucking belt with a radio on it that does nothing, or the people just standing there looking at the bag hanging and dripping blood, waiting for a main character to come along and literally do anything.

Which, is something I noticed in the first episode too. Car crashes and just a group of people standing around doing nothing. I understand that happens in real life, but when you've got 47 people, everyone would be doing something. People who are the type to just randomly gawk at every situation wouldn't have survived in this world at all.

Anyway, the reason I'm posting is because I'm super confused about the daughter. On the recap and then very first part of the first episode, she sees her dad die, and then disappears. And I can't figure out why she didn't remember any of it. Did I miss something? At first I kept thinking maybe I imagined that scene and it happened different, but she was definitely there. What the hell is going on?

The Julie that saw her dad die is from the future. They gave her a different hair cut to help clue in the audience.

Watching the second season of Severance week to week for sure impaired my enjoyment of that show but with From it's too goofy for me to get annoyed.

Guess I missed that. Should've given her a retarded dyke mullet if they wanted me to notice a chick's hair being different. That's way too subtle for me.

Know your audience, people.

The evil old guy basically says something along the lines of what time period are you from this time.

I don't want to bag on this season too much as it's been better written and less frustrating than I've come to expect from this show but goddamn nothing happened. Not only did nothing happen but it was like seven or eight minutes shorter than the last two with a big "previously on" to help pad things out.

At this point I think the only payoff I really need

is for Ethan to die a grizzly death. I hate that fucking kid so much.

And Donna gets out. Maybe Ethan is going to doom them all and Donna just blows his head off. I'd 5/5 that episode.

Child actors are almost always just grating. The ones who can pull it off, but also have decent writers who can write children, is incredibly rare.

Speaking of "I won't talk about it," I swear there was one or two other characters who did it, again, this past episode. It's basically an every episode thing at this point.

This seems to be a common feature of a lot of shows these days. Like they are there for atmosphere, cool cinematography and vibes, and the story never goes anywhere.

I know serialized storytelling is all the rage these days but I think we need a reintroduction of the episodic. If the seasonal arc doesn't give you enough to have progression during the middle of the season than do some self-contained stories where a couple of characters do a thing. Do basic television. Have an A plot and a B plot where there's a problem, escalation and resolution and in the process we learn a bit about the people of Fromsville.

They could do a lot better than having all the main characters take a very small step forward on an episode that's already noticeably shorter because the story doesn't really start until episode seven.

Episodic usually gives them license to give you like 2 minutes of seasonal arc development per episode though, and those almost always end up being freak-of-the-week type shows.

Episodic or serialized doesn't change the fact that the writing just stinks on most shows. Sucky writers will write sucky shows in either format.

I'd like better writing but if I can't get better writing I'd rather they told a small story as a filler episode than whatever this was.

I binged S1-S3 of this show the week ahead of S4 release. Not sure how I missed this one, but glad I had so much to catch up on.

It has been a pretty entertaining show overall, and now one I look forward to for new S4 episodes. IMO it's pretty much off the rails, but still worth watching. I just go into each episode open-minded, and ready for some new sci-fi or horror idea to be added for no reason.

I feel like they kept the story line and plot details contained pretty well in S1 - S2. The transition from S2 - S3 was even believable within the shows context, but some of the events and characters new to S3 and now in S4..it's like they had a brain storming session in the writer's room and just decided to use everyone's ideas.
Shapeshifting Demon in a suit from Dumb and Dumber? - Yes!
Time Travel? - Yes!
Japanese Geisha Demon Reincarnation Wet Nurse, in rural New England? - Yes!
Ghost boy growing into Ghost teen? - Yes!
Psychedelic drugs? - Yes!
Maybe legal, but borderline so be careful, youth group boobs? - Yes!

My prediction:
Within the next few episodes, Batman is going to show up looking for the Joker, capture him and then fly him back to Arkham in the Bat Wing. Then the townsfolk will just get back to the story as is in the following episode.
