Stuff is finally happening, but it took so long to get here I feel like everyone just hates these characters and wants them to die now. Unfortunate.

Nah, I'd genuinely be upset if something happened to Boyd, Kenny, Donna, Kristi, or Jade. Maybe even Sara and Randall too.

I don't hate the characters. I love the monsters. Go monsters!

Randall is alright. I know Julie is going to be made wrong by the writers but she really isn't. Her arc is learning that unlike other townsfolk that are manipulated in to hurting themselves or others she was manipulated to not do something that could help.

But for now she's the show's only voice of reason. Everyone needs to stop kicking the hornets nest.

That ending seemed super abrupt. I was really expecting something else to happen.

The special effects, mostly the red lightning, were pretty good though.

I guess the only thing that stood out to me was fucking Patty. Otherwise this finale didn't really resolve anything did it?

No, didn't feel like much of a finale to me. I guess some folks died, some minor stories may(?) have resolved (Victor's father), and some got more interesting (Fatima). Really just a lot more wait and see.

man in yellow: walks around fucking with everyone, kills whoever he wants, steals whatever he wants, makes deals with everyone, tells people if they do what he says he'll save them (obvious lies), casts spells, basically no rules and does whatever the fuck he wants

boy in white: shows up randomly seemingly on accident, whispers a few useless things and then mumbles about how he can't help and fucks off

the show is an allegory for modern times, the residents are normal middle class people, man in yellow is billionaires who have no rules and do whatever the fuck he wants and lies and cheats endlessly, and boy in white are politicians who tell the normie retards that he will help them but really he is best friends with man in yellow and treats the whole thing as a game and doesn't really give a fuck what happens.

the face monster people are obviously illegal immigrants, the spider monsters are jews (in charge and hidden), and lets say the dolls are elected republicans because they are fucking useless but will turn around and stab you in the back when you least expect

I assumed that the earthquake was the other side pushing back and maybe even the return of the sun but the problem with all of that is we've got four seasons of not much visible aid provided to our town. We've got the talismans sure but there's 100x more evil shit going all day every day versus any Boy in White help.

It was fine but it did not feel like a season finale. We were building up the Man in Yellow for this season to have a violent conclusion of the cycle but instead of that being the story we stopped halfway through. You can't just kill off the entire cast (probably) but I still prefer my idea of everyone except Ethan dying horribly and him speed running a successful iteration as the final season.

On a full rewatch this show would be pretty bad as you the viewer are going to know ahead of time which plot points go absolutely nowhere. Julie! You're a story walker! We're going to have season three end on a cliffhanger with it! We're going to spend a good chunk of time on it the first three or four episodes in season 4! It's going to go nowhere! Now it might pick back up in season five but plenty of shit never does.

Lol Ethan sucks. For a show that's not afraid to kill kids, they won't take out the most annoying one.

Also, what the fuck are the rules with the talismans? The tree being pulled suddenly renders the talisman in the cave ineffective? Why? Is it a particular size hole? Does an open chimney not have the same effect? What about a crack in the wall? An air intake? There's a big ass gap in the wall around the car that Sophia/the Man in Yellow crashed into the post office. How has Boyd remained safe in there? Could they not just put a second tarp behind the one with the talisman to "close it off" or whatever, based on the fucking logic Donna used because she's an expert on things that have never ever happened before?

So I've been watching the show now that it's out. Had thought about rewatching season 3 but just did the final episode, and had completely forgotten that Jim got MacGruberred.

Was on the episode with the lake dolls. Jesus, one of them breaks through the cabin wall like the damn Kool-Aid Man, the one that was set on fire looked like it just wanted a hug and then lumbered off. I know it was supposed to be serious but I was just laughing.

I do see what you guys have been talking about with things just kind of moving nowhere. I'm finding that I'm just kind of skipping through certain scenes and just getting the gist of what the conversation is.

Oh and the Fatima golem she's making looks retarded, but I can't wait to see you what happens with it, sure that's going to be hilarious too.

Yeah, speaking of the golem, what was the deal that? Why even bother creating it if it didn't do shit?

What bugs me about this series is that they can never get a win. Yes they managed to kinda kill one monster, but would've been cool if *something* happened that put a major kink in yellow suit's plan.

I said this before but if the show was episodic (as opposed to serialized like we have) it might have worked better. Each episode has a little mostly self-contained story about the town. Often that story involves someone being manipulated or having an idea on how to get out that is instead disastrous.

A Plot - Fatima is building a golem to regain some sense of control after what happened to her in the walk of the prior season's finale
B Plot - Acosta learns a lesson about friendship while doing a task for Boyd

At the end of the episode that shit is considered resolved and we then don't have Acosta looking for stuff or Fatima's golem in the background as we wait for those threads to advance. It's a weekly show where we do a story of the week. There's not going to be more of either any more than the Enterprise checks back in on a planet was at earlier in the season or the wagon in Wagon Train goes back east. Each season has a couple episodes advancing the larger story which mostly unfolds during the two-part finale. Repeat next season.

As things are now there's just so much shit that never, ever goes anywhere. As the viewer you've got no idea what is important, what is dead in the water and if either outcome is on purpose or accidental. We spent a good chunk of maybe three episodes this season on Jade trying to open his mind, settling on mushrooms, finding mushrooms, taking mushrooms, going on a trip, finding a door hidden under Colony House, that being a vision quest, going back to Colony House and then finding there is actually a hidden door there for that door to have nothing to do with the second half of the season or the finale. Could it have something to do with the story next season? It sure could. Will it? Who knows. This episode drops so many threads there's no way of telling.

Man that Golem better not be the dumbest, ugliest nothingburger to ever exist. But it probably is.

OR

Hilariously demigorgon Fatima starts to control it with her mind powers and follows around Ellis trying to smooch him. Unfortunately I could see that being way more likely.

The golem reminds me a little bit of the smoke monster from Lost. It's like they had an idea but no idea what they wanted to do with it, and then they just threw some shit at a wall at the end for it to be resolved in the most retarded way possible. With only one season remaining, I bet we get about 30% of the stuff resolved, and of those, most will be completely disjointed and unsatisfying.

Episode 1 Season 4

1782834811323.png

We spend some time establishing the why on that a little. Jade's vision quest reveals that all his prior versions were murdered by townspeople instead of monsters. Boyd's wife was maybe manipulated by the Man in Yellow to go on a shooting rampage in an effort to wake up from the dream she thought she was in. You push against the town and the town pushes back, Knowledge Comes at A Cost, Lake of Tears, etc. Some of the framework is there. It looks like we're going in that direction. Oh no! Donna had a heart attack! She's the soul of the town! Victor's dad is going to going to shoot a bunch of people just like Boyd's wife! Sara is a minion of the Man in Yellow running errands for him! IT'S GOING TO GET CRAZY

But then the second half to last third of the season is about bones and bone-planning and we never finish out never paying off what we set up for the premier. It's really baffling.
