Those Apollo program guys fully risked their lives to go to the moon. There's a rocket built into the lander to lift them back up to the command module. When they did the Apollo 11 landing, that design of rocket had been tested in the vacuum of space 6 times with a success rate of only 50%.

So when they were going to lift off the surface, with their only way to get back to earth being this rocket, they knew the odds. It's known that the President had recorded a video message already to state that they had done the landing but would not return. They had recorded a msg already, as the odds on that part of the mission were that un-sure.

So that idiot harassing Buzz needed a damn good punch.
