I don't know Chinese or whatever but, I feel like it's pretty obvious these aren't the same symbols.

I just asked my Chinese father-in-law what those characters mean. He wasn't even within 10 feet of my computer before he said, "Oh my god, chicken noodle soup? Why would you get a tattoo of that?"

The top one is the older, traditional character. The bottom ones are in the newer, simplified style. But, in terms of meaning, these are the same word.

Currently, the traditional characters are used in Japan, sometimes in Korea and China, and in Chinese communities living in foreign countries.
The simplifications like this are only used in China, really. Japanese has simplified certain characters in a different way.
