It does have a safety, and it's a little more obvious than a .50cal safety - it's a big fat side to side safety if I remember right. I should also have specified that our patrols were going condition 3 on all crew served weapons when leaving the wire at that time, so this chucklenuts would have had to disregard the op order, go through an elaborate charging procedure before leaving the weapon off safe and having a ND. We were having crew served weapons alternate left and right facing, and we were very lucky that his MK19 was pointed to a berm. The other direction was a busy motor pool.
