This was a textbook 2nd Amendment, pro-gun, NRA rhetoric, 'murica scenario.
Bad guy wants to inflict damage, good guys get him.

But it cost 2 people their lives.
For all the guns that NRA wants to put into more people's hands, someone who intends to do bad things will always get first blood, which means at least one innocent victim per incident.
And yesterday's shooting was a best-case scenario for that situation. that old man was lightning quick and a deadshot, and still 2 people died.

Is this the best that can be hoped for from a pro-gun perspective? 2+ deaths per random/puclic shooting that some whacko wants to partake in?

If he had a knife or machete, and no one else was armed, he could have killed more than 2 people, so, yes?

Even if security was armed in this exact scenario, the perp with a knife would have had ample opportunity to kill 1 person, and get a stab in on the second closest. If he wasn't dressed like a clown, that alerted security to keep an eye on him, who know how many people he could have stabbed with a knife.

This church has an armed security detail and they were watching this guy cause he looked suspicious (in a wig, fake beard, and trench coat). The security guy that made the shot used to own a range and give classes on shooting safety. It sounds like he positioned himself as best he could, just in case the clown was hostile. The shooter got up and went to the bathroom, and as he came back, said something to one of the guys doing communion; whom he later shot, along with a Deacon. He used a shotgun.
