My grandfather used to tell me stories about the giant land crabs they used to run into during the Pacific Campaign in WW2. I'm pretty sure he was referring to those coconut crabs. He said they used to snap their claws really loudly and to troll other Marines, they would usually skewer one on their knife and fling the crabs into the foxholes nearby

He also mentioned a story where there was a guy in a jungle hammock and they put either one of these crabs or a really big ass bug into it with the guy that was sleeping, woke him up, then he bust out of the hammock when he saw what they had put in there with him lol
