what are these square boxes for?
i assume theyre something to do w/ hot water? cuz it doesn't look all that crazy if you go from left to right, it looks like it's a copper manifold hot water on the bottom and they goto 1/2 pex lines and the top is copper cold water manifold that goes out to 1/2 pex lines

got it right. The are solenoids for some type of hot water heating. Different zones, different thermostats, can be a very good and efficient way to heat.
