I worked on a hangar for those in NC, beside an existing hangar. That hangar had a fighter in it and I stuck my head in the access panel behind the front landing gear. No idea what I was looking at but I am clear that they would have ran me completely off the base if they had found me doing it.
When Hurricane Hugo was supposed to hit , they flew all those off to TN. The ones that were not air certified were tested en masse, by hovering in the air for 10-15min. That was a sight I'll never forget.
Of course, no cameras were allowed and cell phones were not affordable nor did they have cameras.
