Strangely , for the first time in my life less than a year ago I had essentially a claustrophobic panic attack when being put in for an MRI (see the whole Kidney saga for me in the Health Problems thread). Because I needed to be conscious for it (you have to hold your breath while they are scanning your abdomen) they had to have a solution other than "knock his dwarven ass out". And that solution was to send me to a place in a suburb north of town that had a "wide bore" MRI, and have me take an anti-anxiety pill or some ilk, which got past the claustrophobia. It's essentially around 1.75x the circumference of a normal MRI. I've even seen one where it's not a tube, it's like two giant discs which you lay between, and it makes a "you" sammich.
