There is a high cost of resources. And it's a giant PITA. This photo is from USC (That's South Carolina) Patterson Hall. Renovated it during 2010-2011 and part of it was a 'living roof'. See the part behind the fence? Know why the fence is there? It didn't work the way it was designed. And because it was 'living space' we had to add outlets & lights to the fucking place. Best part was listening to them talk about 'snow load' on a roof , in South Carolina. Fun Fact: Columbia SC is HELL ON EARTH in the summer. It's a city ringed by a slow moving water source so you get none of the relief and all of the humidity and pollen / etc. My brother had bronchitis the entire time we were on this project.Very cool. I wonder what the increased cost of resources it takes to put a layer of dirt, plumbing and everything else on top of a large building.
Singapore leads the way in this, will be interesting to see it continue to develop.
