One of the biggest loads of bullshit of all time is the notion that the "gold standard" exacerbated the great depression. Bretton Woods put us under a quasi gold standard but it was not a true gold standard. After Nixon trashed what was left with the dollar's ties with gold we then ushered in the modern world of unrestrained money printing and asset bubbles that we enjoy today.
If you're part of the ultra elite 1% then unrestrained money printing is the greatest thing that ever happened to you. The previous chart illustrates it quite well:

While the gold standard was abolished before, it really feels like there's far more money than goods out there now, and the main purpose of that money is to generate more interest for the ultra rich.
The real reason for the linked graphs is obviously not the gold standard, but the fact Communism was defeated and capitalism was the superior system. Before that was clear, both systems were also in a fight to prove which system provided the higher average lifestyle for lower and middle class workers. Now that Capitalism doesn't have to prove itself anymore, we're back to a feudal age distribution of wealth.
You know what else happened in 1980? Reagan and "trickledown" economics....So much is tied to how fucked we've been since the gold standard was abolished. It's a shame so little people know about it.
Can we just push a button and start from a clean slate already? Just get rid of most of the people in the world that are just taking up space. Get rid of the corrupt world governments, money, greed, and everything else. Just get rid of it all, and unite in to one peaceful world union.
Im surprised there isnt a group out there that wants this. I mean, it worked for Star Trek.

A lot of the preppers, survivalist nuts, and militia groups out there basically prescribe to this. They'd love to see the world burn, believing that they and those like them are best positioned to rule the ashes and define the society that would follow.
