I could see it as a series but you wont get the cast in a series, Just aim to do a sequel with original members

If it was HBO it could be done. Otherwise, no way.

They should do Galaxy Quest: The Next Generation. Do a pilot with cameos from Tim Allen or others. Only way it'll have a shot at working without the original folks.

not sure how this would work mechanically. the movie worked since it was a one time "wait... you guys think this shit is REAL!?!?" but it would be pretty dumb for them to keep going out and trying to save the universe.

i could see on AMC something like season 1 being just a cheesy scifi show with a finale of actual aliens watching the show and going on from there, but on major network TV they would never go for that plus they would want 20-22 episodes a season which is way too much.

As far as space comedies, isnt Other Space supposed to be pretty good ?

While Galaxy Quest was one of the best satires ever made ( "Is there air here ?! Can we BREATHE ?!? YOU DON'T KNOW !!" ), a series based on that concept is a stupid idea.

What are they going to do ? Use the original story and add an assload of filler ? It's not like they could continue it after the movie, given that it would actually *be* a star trek clone at that point. Part of what made galaxy quest good is that the cast weren't retarded for the sake of making jokes, the comedy was mostly situational. For an ongoing series to get laughs they'd have to change that - it's not like that can't work, Red Dwarf, for example relies heavily on the characters doing absurd things because it's funny, but with that kind of setup it wouldn't really be galaxy quest.

Well, they do have the engineer's alien wife living with them on Earth, so it could be half dealing with filming the fake show in the show (see Stargate's Wormhole X-treme) and the rest is actual sci-fi alien hi jinx mixed in. Crazy space stuff happens to them "in real life" and they incorporate that into the show.

if it was a straight up star trek spoof and called something besides galaxy quest, then perhaps it could work, but these guys are too scared to take a risk on an unknown property so they buttrape a beloved one.

I liked Galaxy Quest at the time (Star Trek had yet to die on TV) but fuck all y'all studio execs for funding a turd like this 16 years too late instead of a real Star Trek series.

Galaxy Quest Series Finds a Home at Amazon Studios

Entertainment Weekly reports that Paramount Television partnering with Amazon Studios and their streaming service to develop the film Galaxy Quest for a television revival. One of the film's original writers Robert Gordon will pen the pilot script and executive produce the Galaxy Quest series along with the original director Dean Parisot and producer Mark Johnson.

It's unclear at this point whether the television series will be a sequel to the series or a reboot, or if any of the original cast is onboard. Talk of a sequel to the film has been discussed previously though nothing has materialized.

A reboot might actually work, in the same vein as Twelve Monkeys.
Just having the story told over a longer amount of screen time.

Only if they CGI in Rickman.

This could turn it around for Justin Long's career.
