Man, the N64 is a system I just never got excited about. I still feel like it is up there with the WiiU in terms of shit tier games list including first party. But man the top of the heap was stellar with the Zelda’s and Mario.

Maybe I have a soft spot for the N64 because my dad was a gamer back then and that was my first console.

Conker's bad fur day, Starfox 64, Paper Mario, Turok, Donkey Kong 64, Vigilante 8: 2nd offense, Castlevania 64 and Forsaken were pretty solid games IIRC from my childhood. I think most of those games had the Rare Limited "Seal of Approval" too.

Also screw the Winnie the Pooh game, how they expected a child to figure out those janky ass controls was and still is beyond me.

Can we all agree, though, that the n64 had the worst designed controller ever?
I feel like if you cut of the left side of the controller it makes more sense. The lack of dual joysticks certainly hindered certain games, especially FPS.

I assume we're talking about main controllers and not gimmicks...

I've never actually used it, but as a kid, the Atari Jaguar controller looked absolutely retarded. How many games needed a full number pad?

Don't know, maybe it wasn't actually bad to hold - the Dreamcast controller looked really wonky but felt ok in the hands.

I still blame the N64 controller for me playing with the southpaw stick configuration to this day. Thing fucked me up for life.

lol. People did not like my n64 take. Yeah. It was pretty top heavy was my only comment and I’ve never felt near the nostalgia for it to this day like I did the SNES. I fucking loved SNES.

I sold the box of star fox 64 for like $60 on eBay. It was mint. Have no idea where the game went - suspect my brother stole it.

I had a jaguar And the numpad was mostly a gimmick. Some games would come with a faceplate you could stick over it showing certain controls for some games but I only remember a couple actually using it.

The only system that had a better game lineup than SNES, as a whole, was Playstation. But the N64 comes in third in my opinion.

N64 started strong having the advantage of being the beginning of the 3D era, going from 2D to 3D in mario and zelda can't be repeated. But eventually the console fell off since this was also the era that nintendo started to lose 3rd party support.

That controller definitely sucked, I remember playing on my friends jag and the visuals were better than anything at the time but holding that controller was like having a steering wheel in your hands, was so bulky.

Commodore 64 did that for me, as a kid. My dad had some jet fighter game and he explained how it made sense. I was southpaw my entire life until a couple years ago when my kid would trade off controller to me and we were having to switch it because he couldn’t grasp southpaw. I said “Fine I’ll deal with your weird ‘up goes up’ configuration” and got used to it within a day. I was surprised how fast I adjusted.

N64 had some of the best and some of the worst 3D games I've ever played. It's hard to reconcile that the same system that had Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye, Mario Kart 64, Lylat Wars, Turok 2 and Perfect Dark also had Superman (at least I didn't buy THAT one) and Mission Impossible (my least favorite game I've ever owned probably).

There definitely are some stinkers in there for sure.

I remember renting Superman 64 at my local Hollywood Video. The game sucks ass... I spent hours flying through those dastardly rings getting to the next challenge, only to fail. You know what happens after? That's right! Back to the rings at the start.

The only good part was the free fly mode where you could explore the city.

A few more off the top of my head.

Goeman ninja (sp?)
Conkers bad fur day
Banjo Kazooie
Bomberman 64
San Francisco rush 2049 (sp?)
Jetforce Gemini
Diddy kong racing (easy better then Mario kart ever was I'll die on this hill)
Castlevania (vengeance or legacy can't remember name)
Body harvest
Battle tanks
Starfox (unlocking multiplayer rocket mode was SUCH a flex back in the day)

And the obvious ones already mentioned as well.

Looking back n64 might have been the adventure/3dplatform golden era. So many things to unlock in every game. Man they really don't make them like they used to.

Perfect Dark was the pinnacle. All those multi-player modes and challenges. We dont even get a fraction of that shit these days.

The future of gaming was so bright before corporation mentality got involved.

If you or anyone else here for that matter has anymore N64 Games you would consider parting with please message me, I'm willing to pay good money. I am always trying to preserve classic hardware especially N64 and Game Cube.

A working copy of StarFox 64 is high up on my list.
