See I don’t even know who made dead cells - so they are making the new CV… yeah I also don’t even get what a rouge like is- I am an old man.

So my general observations from the trailer were correct heh.

So many people on the YouTube comments were like “that soundtrack smacks!” - I am like…what? Fool go play 5min of NES CV2 and truely jam out
which is funny. because.. this is Rogue. so.. when you say you're an old man...
Rogue-likes are Hack, netHack, moria, Adom, dungeon stone soup, etc.

now yes, Rogue-like can also be used for games that expand a bit more.
Caves of Qud, dungeon of dredmore, dwarf fortress, FtL,tales of eyemajal. etc.

rogue-lite tends to be used for games that have rng, permadeath, but progression. or are just so far removed they can't be called roguelikes anymore. or drop even more of the specific aspects like permadeath.
slay the spire, Hades, diablo, etc..

Diablo is decidedly not a rogue-like or rogue-lite. In fact it pretty much defined its own new genre!

Everything else tracks!

I never liked those.

I do not like those type or anything “preoceadurally generated” or in modern terms “ai slop”

Metroid and Castlevania - and thus Mertroidvanias are not rouge like - the progressions is done by exploration and collection etc not just stupid death cycles and randomized nonsense

I wouldn't call it AI slop.

What I like is that it forces you to play dynamically. Almost like a blind run every game. It fires certain neurons that only fire for me on day 1 first playthroughs.

However I also think the genre is getting played out. At least as a 2d top down/side scroller archetype.

Games started to seem stagnant in the early 2010’s. First with HR like always, then they control hiring and spear heading DEI or adjacent type programs. Then by the late 2010’s, you really got to see how much of the teams had switched to mostly women. Rockstar used to be all men, or at least 90%+. Now its the exact opposite. Blizzard, obviously. Etc.

I always hated that shit. I worked with a cool HR girl awhile back and she defaulted to that immediately. Girls need to be encouraged to study computer science! Its not fair that boys naturally gravitate to tinkering in the basement 12 hours a day for their entire childhood!

Nobody stopped girls from learning Java. They just had no interest in it by and large. Still don't.

typically not. In fact, Rogue Legacy. is the game that kindof popularized the naming of Rogue-lite. is, a rogue-lite metroidvania.

its progression systems, and metroidvania design is why the new term was created. it was too far from Rogue to still be called a roguelike. but yeah, a proc gen metroidvania.

You faggots don’t realize we’re all AI slop. All the way down. The matrix is real.

Devs make the game they want to make, surprise reveal it extremely late in development. Players watch the trailer and think it's bad. Players play it and think it's bad, list all the reasons why. Game dies quickly... Devs blame Players.

AI slop cuts corners during development, but it does not alter the cycle. The end result is still a human whining and blaming gamers for why it bombed instead of owning their creation and its failure.

I don't consider anything without a static map a Metroidvania. The procedurally generated maps kind of take away a lot of the design that goes into Metroidvania type games. Progression may be locked behind certain "key" upgrades for new maps/biomes, but I don't qualify that as the sole defining characteristic of a Metroidvania.

Phew, I put a lot of time into Rogue Legacy 2...

The gameplay was uncomically boring. Part of me wonders if I'm just getting too old for games with how many ass new games are coming out that are total shit.... Then I load up one of my old games from the 90s and just have fun and know for sure its just the kids that are all wrong.
Dunno but I gotta tell you , I am having to pry myself away from playing fallout new vegas.

Only new game I'm looking forward to is the one based on the expanse, the rest I'll wait for a sale. If even.
