It means whatever you want it to mean. Traditionally a developer was someone who writes code. For anything. This became a prestigious title which led to title inflation and other teams being jelly about not having this title. A few decades of that went by now you have QA claiming to be developers because they don't want to be QA with no "respect." Nowadays you kind of need to read between the lines and discern whether or not this person was actually engineering and creating cool shit through technical expertise or was part of the vast support team(s) that exist for any development project.
fucking lol @ QA drones calling themselves game devs.

The slimiest I get is saying that I used to work in game development and letting people draw the wrong conclusions from the vagueness of that statement, but I've never once actually claimed to have been a dev myself.

That one faggot pirate software was doing that. He was a Blizzard QA guy but would go on and on about QA being part of the dev team. Thus labeling himself a Blizzard game developer. He did this for the developer clout and to make himself look more intelligent.

I would argue that most people in tech tend to do this. It just doesn't matter because nobody outside the org cares if you did this while working on health insurance software or something.

drunk question: what the fuck do yall consider a "developer"?
In the past, I assumed it was the main programmers, coding up the engine and other shit i have no clue about. Now it seems like if you do some QA or write a little side quest, you can call yourself a vg developer. when I see shit like "Marathon from developers of Halo" I think it was just the same janitorial staff. /rant
I mean Marathon is made by Bungie, which is the studio that made Halo. Is it the same people? Well obviously most of them aren't seeing as Halo is 25years old but this isn't a case of "from the devs who worked on Diablo 2" and it's one guy who might have been an intern at the time that made his own team and now running a studio either. And probably a bunch of them worked on the last actual Halo mainline, although I don't believe it was very well received so that's not much of a positive anyway.

I thought he got up into actual game development from QA, which does happen. Are you saying he was never anything more than QA at Blizzard?

No he was only QA. I watched that Turkey Tom video on him being a faggot and it went over his history.

I think the term can be fairly vague. especially nowadays with "narratives", art, etc all being pretty integrated into game design.
Anyone positively in the design process I think I would consider. art design, narrative design, included.

like, if I was a work for hire, artist doing skyboxes, textures, or concept art, maybe even 3d models. not a developer. but, if I was the art lead, hiring the concept artists, and coordinating with the engineers. maybe even implementing the art into the game myself. developer.
either doing the implementation or directly in charge of the people doing it.

nah. that too. even his QA job, he got becuase his dad worked at Blizzard
Holy shit what a fucking loser. Not only could he not get a real dev job even with a family member at the studio, but he's been passing himself off as a game dev all this time despite only ever being QA?

That guy is a real weirdo. Seems they caught him on all his lies, which is just about everything he says. He had a female roommate who also worked at Blizzard. She said he left dried body fluid on his bedroom walls. I guess he spent all day at work surfing internet.
