Thing is - this game might be good and it might have been fine with a female protagonist. But with how shitty socially most developers are and the trend of unnecessary female lead insertion, they’re not gonna get the benefit of the doubt. Did they even say anything about keeping the Ghost franchise self-contained in stories?

People loved Samus, Lara Croft, a host of women in FF series, the chick from Bayonetta, first Horizon Zero Dawn, etc. Maybe they shouldn’t have spent the past decade demonizing male protagonists, particularly white male, and making decisions on DEI instead of story. Yotei might make sense story-wise, but they poisoned the well too much.

What I'm hearing on the ground is it's ranked higher than Ghosts of Tsushima, due to graphics mainly.

The high rating checks out if it's indeed that close to Tsushima-- as Tsushima is still regarded as a classic.

This one seems overhyped. Viewing it with the same suspicion I did Starfield and not purchasing. I'm skeptical it's on Tsushima level.

SBI inc is involved with the story telling. You can be assured there will be some shit in there not being shown - give it a few days and wait for all the DEI bullshit story lines to weave their way into Feudal Japan re-writing history.

MS desperate to kill/get out of the (other than PC) game business, the billions they make from the space not enough for the investment. Watching internal corp fights play out on the screens of millions.

I have about 10 hours so far in the game (Ghost of Yotei), I still in the first area.

The game ridiculously good looking, it's a wallpaper maker. It runs very smoothly, still has these insanely fast load times, almost instant when fast traveling.

Typical revenge story so far, Yotei 6 killed her family, she's back to kill them all. It's adequate so far. I like that most of the side quests seem to involve the Yotei 6 ties the side quest to main story a little, giving you more background/motivation for her revenge.

In terms of gameplay, it's more of the same with Ghost of Tsushima. The biggest change is that in GoT you had one weapon, the katana with difference stances each of which was good against a specific enemy type. This has been replace by having multiple weapons instead of stances, but it's fundamentally the same.

The open world exploration is just as good as GoT, minimalist UI and info on the map. Follow the wind torward your objectives, smokes on the horizon showing POI, birds flying to bring you to secret places. Bunch of side activity, cutting bamboo with your sword, painting, praying at shrines, etc, basically all the stuff from GoT.

No woke stuff so far after 10 hours.

I love it, Ghost of Tsushima is one of my favorite Open World game and this is more of it. Gameplay wise, this has slight improvements but I think the GoT story was more compelling.

"Consume product and wait for next product" is what the average person is trained to do, while "promote social cause and wait for next social cause" is what the militant class (like the devs of this game) are trained to do.

It is what it is at this juncture, the cycle continues

The fact that it is trying to be historically accurate like GoT, makes having a female of that time (not even a noble) be able to defeat every man she meets with various weapons...100% woke and 1000% made for the modern audience.

Now, if the game was in a fantasy setting with a hint of magic or something that would make having such a mary sue a bit more plausible, I'd play it. Hell, if it limited the MC to using only the Bow, and being a Ninja it would be passable.
