Does this remake have modern QoL?
Also, it looks like retextured dog shit.
Holy fuck, some of the voice acting is terrible. Some of it is really good.

Gothic games are the OG jank RPGs along with Risen. Some amazing things mixed with "wtf is this". Very power fantasy, start off with nothing, but become very powerful. Heavy focus on exploration, which of course early on means lots of deaths as things oneshot you.
Will for sure buy this, but expect some extra jank early on, so waiting for a patch or two.

I remember liking the Gothic series as much as Morrowind and certainly more than any other FPS RPGs made before 2010 or so. It's hard to compare them with the more modern games like The Witcher 3 or even Skyrim with a plethora of well developed mods (Gothic 2/3 > vanilla Skyrim), but I also wasn't a huge Witcher 3 fanboi either.
Never replayed any of the Gothics due to the early 3D graphics looking so dated and generally having a good memory of most stories. Time has done it's work with the first one though and I'm not sure how much I will remember without the visual queues of the lowfi blocks to trigger the memories.

Oblivion had killed the Gothic franchise off by 2006 and was unable to compete. Gothic 3 sold 500k copies and took over 14 months to do it.

This is kind of "Hey Oblivion did a remake, why can't we sell some boxes too?" afterthought. People are enjoying the nostalgia but it's very niche in it's appeal-- which is fine.
It's a 1:1 remake, not a remaster, and that's ok. If they did a remaster for it, I'd buy it because that has broader appeal. But a remaster takes a budget, and none of the Gothic games were commercially successful enough to justify a remaster.

Not to mention that the gothic remake was already being made when Oblivion Remaster released. You oddly have a hate boner for this despite never having played it.
