I wouldn't be shocked at all if this was $79.99 for the base version. In fact, it's what I suspect it will be. Rockstar knows what they have going for them here, and they know its about to be the best-selling piece of media in the planet's history.

$80 I feel like is the perfect price point to milk whales, while also not being completely unapproachable for the "normies/poors".

$/hr entertainment still not a bad deal but I start to really hesitate on buying a game above $60-70.

It is like going to the theater. I now only go maybe twice a year. The same can be said for games that I really want. I have no problem paying $70.00 to $80.00 for this game when it comes to the PC. If done right, this is akin to Cyberpunk 2077 when it comes to the potential of the game. That game was $59.99 6 years ago. Prices for everything have since gone up just a little bit.

Prices haven't really "gone up", in a sense. The dollar has lost 30% of its value since 2020.

Early Xmas gifts for others since the game is going to be the biggest of the flops? Smart man!
VII might end up being a "flop", based on VI. But VI is going to sell like a fucking maniac. Publishers are terrified of releasing near it, which is why so many things are cramming in a Sept.-Oct. release window.

You know this almost always just makes me people do the opposite. Maybe that was your goal.

If this is physical media for console, then you’d want to pre-order to avoid the “sorry we are sold out” shit during Christmas, although I have to imagine they’re going to print a metric fuckton of discs

I’ll support a publisher until it gives me a reason not to. 5 is one of my favorite games of all time and be it a pre order or day one, I’m getting it regardless so why chance my only gamestop in 45minutes distance being sold out?

other than their surfing game in the early 2000’s and the definitive edition, their lineup has been just about flawless over 27 years for me.

I don't think we're quite at the point where they drop physical media entirely for a game like GTA VI, but my money is definitely on it being the equivalent of a Nintendo Game Card. This game is going to easily top 200GB and publishers *hate* mastering even one dual-layer Blu-ray let alone two or three. They'll just ship the installer on the disc and make you download it, which makes the physical copy moot anyway. It's just a digital copy with the added inconvenience of having to keep the disc in the drive at all times.
