Nah, just doesn't change the base content especially on DX11 or older games (like WoW) and tbh a lot of work has been done over the years with efficient shaders/shadows/etc. It's clearly nicer but I'm still running 60 hz 1080p so it's not like the difference is going to be like going into a store with all that carefully groomed stock 4k footage on the OLED TVs which is just insane detail.

I think I'm ready to get a gsync, 144hz monitor, but not sure where to start looking. Are there any quality review/advice sites you guys would recommend? When I google it seems to be all bought reviews and advertising.

I'm going to be honest I just looked and I could only find one model that actually fit what I wanted in that space (2K res/144+hz/gsync) and that's the Acer XB271HU. I think Asus might make something comparable but man the pickin's are slim unless you want to give up one of those items.

Asus PG279Q is their 1440p/144hz/gsync/ips offering. I currently have one and it's the best monitor I've ever used. Also have their freesync version which is identical aside from the gsync and it's 200$ less if AMD is your thing, it otherwise looks exactly like the PG279Q with a bit more bezel on it being the only difference.

^ I have one as well. Great monitor and despite being a TN panel it's still good picture quality. Can move up and down quite a bit as well as rotate 90 degrees (maybe more, haven't tried) and tilt to fit your viewing angle.

That's the ips I think. Both acer and asus have a 1ms tn or 4ms ips it seems

If you want a 144 hz 1440p TN panel, the Dell version is the best.

I gather that there's no such thing as an inexpensive IPS with refresh times suitable for gaming?

No, IPS is still too 'new' for high level displays and heavily R&D so this stuff is really pricy still for any of the nice units.

Would you guys pretend like you didn't know me if I just stuck with a TN panel? I'm not enough of an enthusiast to throw $800 at a monitor.

I bought an Acer XB270HU last year and it's the best money I've spent on a system component that wasn't an SSD.

If you can get the Dell S2716DG for under 500 its a good deal.

I don't think I can go back to a TN shitpiece after IPS.
Okay so right now I have a Dell S2716DG Gsync TN panel sitting edge-to-edge with a Dell U2717D IPS panel (their newest baseline no frills IPS panel.)

Other than the viewing angle being shit on the TN panel, and the response time being absolute garbage on the IPS panel, I can't tell a difference in color once calibrated, and this IPS glow is really fucking with my black levels.

Movies do look ever so slightly better on the IPS panel. But for games this Dell is a fucking steal if you can get it for sub 500 dollars.
