That still doesn't explain wtf have they been working for the past 2 years. I really want to love this game, the world is the only that feels genuine since vanilla WoW and not like an amusement park with all the exploration and jumping puzzles, but they added almost nothing that made the game so fun in the first place since launch.

Nope it's almost definitely an expansion: (spoilers obv)

New class and new weapons for new skills would get me playing this again regularly, but as it stands next MMO I play will likely be a fresh FF: Realm Reborn character.

I remember reading something the other day that expands the weapon selections to other professions, adds greataxes, adds a new race of birdmen*tengu* and adds a third plate class. I wish I could find it.

Tengu are the obvious choice, since they are already in the game, they just closed their city to outsiders, it's right next to LA. I'd prefer it was a brand new continent though instead of filling holes in the existing map, since that would give them space for more new mechanics.

Expansion or LS3 reveal, with a new Feature Pack that includes the Ritualist, or whatever Rytlock becomes. I could see them releasing a new area the size of Orr.

This HAS to be an expansion, if it's not they're clearly suicidal when it comes to PR. There's been plenty of backlash from the community about the living story and how mundane ANets additions to the game felt over the last years. And with ANet talking this whole thing at PAX up as a big reveal, I don't expect them to simply announce season 3 and call it day.

A simple continuation of the story is not a big reveal but rather obvious and expected by everyone. The content they've put out today has been consumed by most players in the same evening, the game simply can't live on on these extremely short-lived episodic bursts.

Plus it's not something they'd go through the hassle of trademarking. Didn't do it for the previous Living Story stuff why start now?

Because unfortunately Anet has to hype the little things they do, they took 3 weeks of blogs to try and hype up their feature patch which is not any more than what a regular wow 0.1 patch would bring.

The title looks more appropriate for the current living story stuff, maybe it's an expansion that adds to it after the living season is done. If the Pax announcement is anything but an expansion they're going to shoot themselves in the foot with disappointment, they have been really out of touch with the player base if you go by their communication in their forums, hell I hope they get shoes thrown at their faces if they don't announce an expansion at Pax.

New weapon for each class have apparently been data mined already, so something new is coming anyways.

On the other hand, the game is massively profitable, judging by the numbers they published. I only quickly took a look at it but it looked like the game was making 20times Wildstar's revenue(granted Wildstar is pretty fucking dead but still). Have to remember they released this in China not long ago, and at this point a lot of people left in the game are PvPers and cosmetics whales who buy keys every 2weeks when they release a patch that add some random shitty looking weapons/backpacks/whatever.

I logged in yesterday to unlock the last chapter of the season 2. Apparently I missed one episode though, and they want me to pay them 10$ so I can unlock the 2.5$ episode. Like fuck that shit. If it's an expansion, I'll consider dropping 10$ to buy some gold or whatever in the process, but otherwise there's no fucking way I'm doing that nonsense.

Their lack of balance is also staggering. It's like 2years after launch, and Necros are still complete garbage at PvE, as far as I'm aware(they were a few months ago when I wanted to play the game again, and I don't remember reading any patch notes that had substantial changes other than nerfing the charges into a wall move and ranger big changes and maybe a couple of other things). Considering they have split pvp and pve skills, I don't even know why the fuck they wouldn't work on making Necro not shit, or just normalizing shit better for pve. Though I guess they haven't really added any pve content in like over a year either, so whatever.

What have they added to the game outside living story stuff?
Well they added some fractals at some point, once, after the initial fractals I mean. They added a couple of new zones during some of the events, like one during season 1(in Orr, with like corals and shit) and one during season 2(the oasis/desert stuff, looks really nice). They might have added another one in season 2 I'm not sure. They added a WvW map, and a couple of PvP maps. I think that's about it? They added A FUCKTON of cosmetics though.

If they crank out an expansion I would plunk money down for it by the time it comes out I probably would be ready for a wow break and I got enough fun and enjoyment out of GW2 to throw some cash at them.

Pretty much, also ascended gear, which, while not all that uber, is a nice carrot without the soul crushing grind of legendaries. If you can do daily dungeons, you can make some decent cash quite fast, but gems have inflated a lot. There's also the megasever, which means that you should never run into dead zones, because it creates instances of the zones independent of the servers.

There is no PvE worth talking about, the only decent piece they added was the new path in Twilight Arbor, but to be flat out honest, the lack of a trinity system made the content stale quite quickly for me. I still lasted one year because I'm an altoholic. Necromancer was a good solo class, but except for a build with okay single target damage it offered nothing to groups, compared to warriors that brought everything required (you could easily plow through content with 4 or even 5 warriors at sick speed).

The living story, while somebody could like it, it was extremely unengaging for me, in shorts I didn't give a fuck about it and the amount of content was little and not massively fun.

I loved GW2 and defended it for several of its strong points, but the mistakes of Anet in handling it made me go away. I may even load it back up, it's still installed on my pc after all, but unless they give me 4 henchmen to do dungeons, I don't think I want to group with speed runners anymore in my life, I can't even understand what they find fun in blazing through dungeons when even bosses don't drop shit. Tokens? Meh.

It's really unfortunate, because I think the core mechanics they have are a decent. They've dropped enough balls with the post-release management to fill the Grand Canyon though.

Played through the last story content, it's rather well done and interesting. The Silverwastes zone reminds me very much of Silithus, there's a huge meta event playing out over the whole zone, taking about an hour to complete, which is pretty fun and apparently they packed it with exploration on top, but I didn't get to that yet. You get to clear, defend and rebuild 4 fortresses over the whole zone ala WvW, escort caravans, then you visit Mordremoth's bowels culminating in pushing 3 lanes against the main boss. Then, I did the whole thing the second time and realized why I stopped playing in the first place. Unless you are a commander, you have very little impact on success or failure of the whole event and doing it just to get a "better luck next time" is frustrating, not to mention that the gameplay isn't exactly challenging unless you get owned because the boss decided to fuck you up randomly.

The plot is obviously a rather major reveal, but then you fight a boss at the end, which is all fun, the phases are varied and I thought it was the best fight in the whole game, but then you get him to 50% and the whole fight plays out again, but now with 50% more bullshit (knockdowns and undoing progress through the phase that you can't do anything about), which perfectly illustrates everything wrong with Arenanet's approach to gameplay. Repeat until you are bored to tears and maybe you will get a shiny new hat. Bring a class with stability.

The game is going on sale for $9.99 this weekend to celebrate whatever they announce at PAX on Saturday morning. Pretty good deal.
