I hope Anet leave the event as it is. It's pretty brutal but that's a given seeing as it's a PUG event and requires a "touch" of co-ordination and thought. Haven't seen so many downed player icons on the mini-map before in the game. Some of the existing bosses have been nicely tuned as well (not great, but certainly have made the fights more interesting, such as the Fire Ele and Golem).

Interval for Tequatl isn't too bad either, i haven't timed it, but I've managed to try the event 4 times this evening (best we got him down to was 85%).

However, the one-shot fish heads are bloody annoying.

When they changed Claw of jormag it took people a few days to learn the new spots, so I guess barring guild or alliance getting together for this specifically it'll be a few days until he is beaten. The mechanics seem pretty straightforward unless there are many new twists as he goes down. Overflows make assembling a group of likeminded people difficult.

Totally agree - he'll be downed by the weekend i reckon, though if Anet leaves the encounter as is, then due to the mechanics it'll never be an event in which you can simply join and pretty much guarantee to be part of a loot pinata. There's going to be allot of tears over this one.

Some changes are probably in order not for difficulty but to counteract player behaviour. Like right now two of six turrets are afk and have been for long while we wait. If he spawns now, we're already fucked for this attempt. Not sure how to change this in a good way but thats their job.

Aside from that I would probably add a pre-event that's triggerable like those caravan escorts you have all over, so players can prep and assemble before the event timer starts. Although just watching an API timer website like a hawk would do the trick too.

It took Blackgate 13 of the 15 mins with 120+ players on teamspeak take him down, they were coordinated, buffed appropriately(potion of undead slaying etc), pugs are obviously not going to do that ever. They also just adapted the WvW zerg ball to take him on, most of them didn't even give a crap to jump the wave, they just ate it and then mass ress. Also wasn't there suppose to be a huge tidal wave? don't remember seeing that happen, weird. The champ minions will probably need to be nerfed, with that many people around they take like 3x longer to kill than other pve/wvw champs, the fish heads are annoying but one shotting berserker wearers is lol. The water waves are good for a skill check and wish they were more effective or frequent so that something like the zerg ball wouldn't make it ineffective.

You can laugh at the pug tears all you want, but if that fight requires you having 80+ players to TS every damn time just to succeed, good luck getting enough players in a couple weeks to bother doing it, some wvw TS servers can't even manage to get 30 on at times. Maybe the lfg tool will improve it, but I wouldn't count on it.

I say that's pretty much perfect. If you can guest on different servers, this doesn't have to happen on every server. This game needs something that's hard to do.

I don't play GW2 because they nerfed ride the lightning but I agree that there should be boss mobs that are difficult to kill and are typically roaming around. Maybe I just miss Gorenaire smashing fools all day long until a guild came by and killed her.

Some friends are interested in picking this up in October or November, but I haven't played since release. What's a good combination of classes for 3 (with 2-3 more to join us later probably) players interested in pvp? Looking for something high skill-cap with an emphasis on team play. Also looking for the capacity to outplay larger groups of players.

I wish more MMOs would do that in general. There really isn't the same sense of danger nowadays since everything in the zone has to be level appropriate and the most difficult enemies are stuck behind a bunch of trash so you don't accidentally happen upon them. I also would've loved to see them add some real consequences for failing the event. One of the things that really excited me about GW2 when I first heard about it was the branching events that you could fail, but for the most part, the only drawback to failing these events is maybe a closed waypoint (which isn't even much of a problem in Orr anymore since they added incontestable ones) or an unavailable vender.

Have you visited Southsun Cove yet? Karka are made of your nightmares, the risen in Orr don't even compare.

Tequatl - my guild, which I'm in mostly for the guildchat, is considering killing tequatl as a part of schedule, we can field 50+ people on TS, if we coordinate with another guild, it shouldn't be too hard.

Are Rangers still shitty?
Shitty in what way? Yeah, we will be shitty in that we aren't War/Mes dream combo, but a well-played Ranger can help utterly fist any comers. PvE-wise, Rangers are a wrecking ball. I wade into a metric fuck-ton of hate, wreck everything, and go home smiling.

Sure, there are classes that do what we do, and do it better, but it's so easy to play a Ranger really well, that it doesn't make a difference.

Beyond that, their reputation of being the DK of WoW in GW2 might be largely deserved. Longbow+Bear all the time in a dungeon is the wrong way to go...yet I see it all the time. No weapon swaps, no stacks, just sit back, bear, then fire and forget.

So true, one yesterday in the easy FotM 1: bear/bow. Mine uses sword/warhorn most of the time, (jaguar/drake or fern dog), on swap something useful for the content I'm facing or greatsword 'cause I like leaping ahead :p.
Admittely I parked my ranger since a few weeks, I'm mostly playing thief or mesmer, but it's not a shitty class at all.

The new dragon is doable with a good level of guild coordination. The problem with this is the hell of overflows makes actually getting everybody in one place with any other guild who wants to assist you difficult. Now combine that with how many attempts it is likely to take and how long between attempts and unless it drops guaranteed ascended items I don't see this event as worth bothering with. The time and effort vs reward isn't there. The guilds capable of downing him with reasonable consistency can do more stuff for more rewards in the same time period.

It is still harsh as fuck to get legendary weapons because the precursors are generally pretty expensive.

You can now get Ascended weapons though, which are crafted from normal mats. They are significantly less of a grind, but have the same stats as Legendary weapons.

Legendary weapons, however, can swap their stats to any stat combo in the game via right clicking them anytime you're out of combat.

My server beat it twice today, with the main server failures I attended being 60%ish. Overflows usually lose at 85%-95%. I think the "new and shiny" effect is causing more problems then helping, because of overflow issues. However it does require decent leadership and everyone know what they are doing. It's a raid encounter. Once the majority of players know the encounter better, it'll be less effort in cat herding.

The thing is, GW2 doesnt do the whole effort vs reward thing very well in general. Aside from farming for gold, what is there to direct your effort into that actually yields rewards? So this new encounter joins the ranks of all other content in this game as "not worth doing for the rewards". For as long as the game has been out one farming method for gold has always been better by a magnitude. For the longest time it was CoF1, now its champ trains in Frostgorge. Everything else, from a rewards point of view is secondary.

They did a decent job with introducing specific rewards for different things with ascended materials, of course, power players burn through them and go back to the optimal way to play, but farming in MMOs in general makes me want to kill myself. GW2 does a decent job of rewarding me everywhere I go, even if it's far from optimal. I can do CoF, few events and maybe some material farming/jumping or fractal in an hour or two, finish the daily and log off happy. I would probably get more doing champ train and bare minimum to get the daily, but I would stop playing in a week.

Absolutely agree, the game is best when you dont follow the optimal path to your next milestone and instead just do what you feel like when you load it up. I am ok with tequatl loot for just that reason.
