I dig the test draw feature in that deck builder as well. Slick stuff and can't wait to check it out.

Man, I'm apparently carrying over my amazingly bad luck from last month into this month. I managed, 7 minutes before the Kickstarter closed, to snag a Grand King. As such-

WAIT, you say. Thats what I said. $500 for Pro? No no no, I got a Grand King right? Thats what the e-mail 7 minutes ago says.
So my thought is, contact Kickstarter, they know I changed pledges, they sent me the e-mail, they can fix it.

Got my response this evening:

Kickstarter Support, Jun 07 18:57 (EDT):
Hi There,

Thanks for reaching out. I took a look at your account and it looks like your attempt to update your reward selection was unsuccessful.

That said, now that the funds are in the creator's hands, you'll need to contact them to come up with a resolution. Keep in mind that the creator may not have access to the funds for up to 14 days after the project met its deadline. You can send a message through the "Contact me" button at the top of the project page by the creator's name. Hope this clarifies.

Best,
Michael

Soooooooooooooooo...... I've now sent an email to Cryptozoic explaining the situation. Hopefully this will have a happy ending. While I would really like to get this Grand King, I had the Dungeon Tier before that, so getting bumped to Pro randomly isn't terrible either, assuming I can get a refund on the extra $250. So yeah, we'll see how this all plays out.

Really kicking myself for not just backing on the first day it opened up. I saw it day one, everything was availible, saw the prices and went "Nah, not for something that could be a total flop.", Stupid Onoes, stupid. >_<

You got a PP tier in the last 7 minutes and you call yourself unlucky?

I think what can happen is, you'll keep the PP and the Dungeon Crawler tiers for $500. Which is a freaking awesome deal

I wonder when we'll be able to make our accounts and what not? I wonder how that will work?

Ha I watched the how to play video and somehow I think I've seen this game somewhere before!

The extra stuff sounds interesting though.

Yeah, it's basically magic. But since it's digital, you can do a lot more with it.

Yes, as they are openingly copying the "Magic the Gathering" model, I am sure you have seen the game somewhere before. Welcome to Hex.

Hex to Magic is Wow to Everquest..

I hope.

Onoes hope it works out for you but in the worst case scenario PP isn't bad. Still you have an email saying your pledge was updated so maybe they will correct it if someone else doesn't pay.

Wonder if we'll be able to make guilds in the alpha stage of the game? I wish to join Rerolled.

I'd guess not. Or if you can, it shouldn't persist through to the real game. If they do things well, alpha should be a total sandbox with access to all PvP cards, with a full wipe after that. Alpha's mostly going to be about breaking the fundamental underlying game (Ie, the Magic 1.1 part). I'd be surprised if it has anything else.

Yeah, I mean, its not unlucky in the grand scheme of things for sure, if you are homeless and you find what looks like a stack of twenties bundled in a rubber band, it's most definitely a good thing. If you then open that wad of cash and find it's one twenty on the outside and a pile of one's inside, you are still probably disappointed. Thats my boat. Either way, yeah, a Pro tier is better than my dungeon tire for sure, so that positive. The tease of of my Grand King, plus my $500 missing from my account for it though is annoying. Like a couple other people have said, Cryptozoic has seemed nothing but cool, so I'm pretty confident that one way or another we will come to a resolution that I'm fine with.

Ohh another analogy. You are dating a girl who is promising to being her hot friend into the bedroom with you two. The night rolls around, you all go out, have a great time, and come back to your place. The friend gets cold feet and leaves. You and your girlfriend have great sex together, but you are still going "Well, fuck, that was sooo close to happening."

I think my point is that I would be happy to be involved in a threesome or to find a pile of free money.

I think a more accurate statement would be...

Hex to Magic is like WoW is to WoW 1.5...

Mechanically speaking, the core of the game engine.

I really enjoyed the guy explaining the game and having to invent new words for "Haste", "Summoning Sickness", "Mana" and so on pretending that it's new stuff, Wizards of the Coast should sue - I can just imagine lawyers combing these videos for examples of them fucking up and saying "Tap".

I'm very interested by all the additions they have made and I would like to play this, but I'm not sure if I can take it seriously because everytime I go to "Tap" something I'll remember that it's "Exhaust" and laugh.

Except that's every other CCG on the market already.

Tap, Rotate, Exhaust, Bow, Spend, Stun, Kneel, Use, etc.

All Wizards has the rights to is the naming, essentially. As long as you find some other magical make-em-up name for the same mechanic, it goes unchallenged, as it has for the last 16 years.

Hex's "tweaking" of the terms is not a new thing in this arena, and it's unlikely that Wizards will make legal advances when they have failed to come to anything countless times before, especially against a company that *already uses "tweaked" magic terms, and has been for years* with the WoW TCG.

No, not really.

WoW TCG, Shadow Era, Pokemon and every FFG LCG and many others do not use the 5 energy mana resource.
WoW TCG, Scrolls and Shadow Era uses the "sacrifice card in your hand for a generic energy"

Most online TCG (I mean all that I have played and I played a lot) don't have a "reactive" system (like using permanent ability ANY TIME OF THE GAME and Instant spells) MTG and Hex both give you this option. Shadow Era, for instance, doesn't.

The above two are only two (but major two) of why Hex and MTG are a like. I mean... really... the same.... I don't mean drawing a card and summoning a creature....... no.. I mean... Really... really... really.. almost exact copy (which is why I pledged $1,000).

Even the cards themselves reminds me of exact MTG card. I don't even want to mention Blood = Black, Wild = Green, Diamond = White, Sapphire = Blue and Ruby = Red.

Neither does Hex. It's colorless generic mana with 'threshhold', or minimum amounts.

Scrolls doesn't sacrifice for generic energy either, it sacrifices for a specific color which can be only used on cards of that color.

That's random quibbling though, Hex is alike enough to MTG that any MTG player should be able to get straight into it.

Hex the game is very similar to magic rules in general, but is quite different from MTG:O in specific though, if for no other reason than having PVE. It's like saying that baldur's gate and temple of elemental evil are the same thing because they both use AD&D ruleset.

Cory said in an interview last week that Alpha would be for 2 or 3 weeks before beta (which is scheduled for Sept) to allow folks who have pledged to get their names and guilds together.

Hex does use 5 energy system, yes they added the "threshold" system to make multi-colored decks more viable. But in essence if you want to summon a multicolored creature (say Black/White) you do need the required Black and White threshold. In other words, it does use 5 different resources (which is why I like it).

Of course the PvE part is another story, I'm only discussing the core card game engine and the game mechanics. MTG's Shandalar offered a great (best) PvE/TCG experience for me... let's hope Hex's PvE experience is going to be as good.

Fact is this is more of a MTG clone then anything released in paper form in the last decade, and Wizards are a known to release the lawyer-hounds quickly. I doubt something will happen though, nobody knows if Wizards even cares about HEX and if they care they still need a case that at least has a chance in court to go there. Who knows, since this isnt a paper product that might be different enough already.

Someone mentioned in this forum that since MTG was released more than two decades ago, it holds no copyrights to its "concept" commercially. They can sue them for using identical logo or name, but not gameplay. I think.
