Well, yeah. Us thar white folk be da devil I tells ya.The twist is gonna be that white men are doing it to oppress coloreds. Maybe steal their hotep
I like the VHS films, but I'm also a sucker for anthologies. I think I've seen all of them and I didn't realize there was a new one out. I want to say the second and third are probably the best, and I don't remember much about the fourth and 5th. Hell I don't even know how many there are anymore, they just kind of show up.Was either this or the new V/H/S Halloween for a movie night. I voted Him over VHS just based on how terrible the last few VHS have been. VHS Halloween is also 2h runtime, and for a B movie I need to be in the mood for a B movie to begin with. I never planned on seeing Him.
It's a Marlon Wayans movie. He turns in a big performance. Everything else is what you'd expect given the production studio/producer. It can be considered a takedown of NFL culture, and this theme is present throughout the movie and escalates to the finale. If that's a dealbreaker then skip it. If you are a fan of Wayans then check it out. Otherwise not much going on here outside of that.

So the football movie is worth checking out?Halloween is allegedly a return to form, but I just don't want to give it a chance unless I hear it myself firsthand. You can't go based on official reviews because it's an indie movie, and indie horror could get a lot of praise it doesn't deserve. I heard it had some similarities to the original VHS hits and was good-- but good compared to the last few VHS isn't saying much. Not sure if it'll make the seasonal cut.
Wayans turned in a monster performance here that's probably still better than anything going on in the latest VHS, even if you don't agree with the overall message of the film.

Are we talking shitty rap music? If so, I think the movie will forever remain a mystery to me, I don't really consider any of that stuff to be music. It does have a made for modern audiences soundtrack for that particular demographic. Wayans performance was strong enough to where the music video interludes were easy for me to tune out and you're just waiting for the next Wayans scene, since he carried the entire movie. But there is I'd say 5-6 "interludes" with modern music in Act 1 and 2. It's very prominent in the movie and got negative reviews for it. That'd be the only other dealbreaker I can think of. So you'd need to decide whether you can get through some stupid ass music cuts interspersed throughout the beginning of the movie. The chosen music is cliche even by modern music standards. It's jarring and doesn't really enhance the movie, critics were just counting down until each music cut was over.
A cut of the movie with different music choices would have done a lot better. Agreed with critics the music was poorly done. Even for the demographic it was meant to appeal to.

Was gonna watch the VHS movie this evening between making pot of chilli. Will report back...on the chilli...I can't remember. When I tune out, it ceases to exist in time and space. So if there is something I'm trying to stick with, I can tank a lot of heat. I have no recollection of the particular subgenre besides that it was complete shit, and that the entire movie is made to appeal to modern audiences. It's Colin Kappernick era shlock on steroids.
It does sound like a strong dramatic performance from Wayans is not going to be enough payoff-- especially given the escalating nature of the politics in this movie by the finale.
I'd say check the latest VHS Halloween and drop me some feedback on that instead.
The last story was pretty good just from an over the top standpoint. Really only a couple that were decent. If you've seen the others, it's worth watching, but it's not the best.I’m a sucker for anthologies, too. Will have to watch the new VHS movie. It released with zero advertising, I guess. Horror movies almost always make it to my feed.
