speaking of trees, house sold a bit ago, new owners just cut down everything. it feels so strange to drive by now. still has no grass, just stumps every few feet.

As a long time homeowner...

Fuck trees.
Yep when I bought the place I have now (all ROCKS baby!) there were still 4-5 pine trees still alive. Fuck them I had them ripped out. Contractor was like 'are you sure these are nice trees'? I told him he was welcome to take them to his house as long as he filled in the root bulb hole.
Fuck a tree and double fuck a pine tree.

Just want you all to know I want to kill someone.

After the huge debacle with the deck. The report. The 2nd contractor. The shoddy work.

This.

What the hell did I do to piss God off.

Not evident in pics but part of the deck got crushed and the pool edge got crushed. View attachment 592834View attachment 592835
Ouch. Sorry my friend. High winds and rain? Was it rotted out? Edit: nevermind I got caught up! Glad you got it sorted. Hope the claim comes through

No trees on a property is disgusting. Looks like a barren wasteland.

I prefer at least some green, but in Kaji’s defense it’s tough and expensive to do out there in the Las Vegas area.
Fuck mowing grass, fuck weed whacking, fuck watering bushes/trees/grass. When we left NC I gave away 2 weed eaters & 2 lawn mowers. Gave away. That's how much I like yard work.

*also 7 back surgeries so I cannot really do it anyhow but , yeah fuck it.

Fuck trees.

I hear you, and I don't. I have all the trees cut back 100 feet from the house, so no overhang on the house, no trees falling into the house, no critters climbing trees and getting on the roof. However, other than that, my property is full, like crazy full, of trees. I deal with the leaves in the fall, that sucks. I get to be in shade all summer, I see 1,000 shades of green every day, I see incredible colours in the fall, I hear the wind whistling through the trees every day. I love trees. I do like them a lot when they're away from the house.

An unrelated topic - I have a million tools. So many of them are used by a bunch of people who work for me on the projects I take on. My tools are scattered over several jobs and that's just life, so great. However, today I received a gift from DeWalt. I have a youtube channel and I use DeWalt almost exclusively. I have always extolled the virtues of DeWalt. So at my home this evening I had a visitor. A DeWalt rep. Apparently he had talked to my wife so he knew I would be home. He showed up and told me I was getting some tools. So these are now for me, not the jobs. I'll always have them at home. I said "great!" thinking I was going to get a drill. Nope.

One hand Sawzall
Screw gun
Hammer drill
Regular drill
Oscillating tool
Large Sawzall
Battery vacuum cleaner
Two different work lights
Circular saw
Sliding battery powered compound miter saw (7 1/4")
Bluetooth speaker
Jigsaw
Planer
Angle Grinder
Finishing nailer
Framing nailer
Battery for every one of the things
6 extra batteries
2, 4 battery charging bays
3 individual battery chargers
4 DeWalt pack out stacks that will hold most of this

I can't believe this. That's a lot of kit. All of it for free. And all of it will live in my workshop at home and no one else will have to use it. I'll always have the tools I need at home even with my other tools being on the jobsite. I take possession of the tools next week. They didn't make any demands, but they encouraged me to continue telling people how awesome DeWalt is on my channel. You can be sure I'm going to do that. I have just under 200,000 followers. This shit is bonkers, and I love it.

Congrats man, that's some serious viewership and a great haul. Without doxing yourself (if possible), what is your channel about? Have you been working on monetizing it? I would think you'd be nearly in quit day job levels depending on how much content you put out.

Also, I think the Porsche 911 is a fine automobile.

Wait, what? LD didn’t even mention a car. Is this now a car thread too? =D

i like my ryobi vacuum cleaner, i keep it in my second floor closet and i take out the battery charger if it's low(i should pop an outlet in it, i know theres a wire running on 1 wall, and i also have another battery charger in my first floor closet, granted i have robots doing my floors and i take out vacuum for stairs and nooks, but i'm just making it so that i don't have to make a trip to my garage (where all the tool charging takes place) to get going. this has also been nice when i did use tools around the house i can pop em in for a quick charge in the closet, so i again don't have to run back to the garage.

i think since youre getting a few chargers you might want to explore this.

I do renovations, mostly of heritage homes. I have a lot of knowledge of "old methods" for this. I recreate original trim, and restore homes to their former glory. That and I always have a few projects going where I'm just flipping a house and show how to do things. People find them educational apparently. I talk through things like installing a water heater, or gas line, or whatever. I also work on my vehicles (cars, trucks, motorcycle, tractor, etc.). I get great questions from people who watch. It helps me get better at explaining. I tend to assume people know a lot more than they do, such as the names of various tools, or with which material I'm working. I also have done a few welding videos. Apparently I'm popular with the 20ish crowd who grew up with parents who didn't have know-how to do anything around the house, so they hired people to do everything. People really seem to be interested in doing a lot more themselves, and they want to learn how.

I've thought about monetizing it, but I dunno if I really want to. I don't put out all that much content, maybe a video a week or less. I could do more, but editing takes a lot of time. I don't want it to become a drag. As soon as you monetize it you have minimum requirements for content, otherwise it's a breach of contract. Plus I hate commercials and I hate hawking things. I like doing things on my own. But you're right, I could probably make quite a bit of money from that.

I'm fine with the Porsche 911. Zippy car.

I have chargers all over everywhere. House, garage, truck, woodshop, barn, you name it. I have flashlights, speakers, vacuums, whatever. I have several charging stations that charge 4 or 8 batteries at once. I use a lot of batteries.

I've had some thoughts about this as it's been a frequent issue since buying a home. My dad has more know-how and tools than I do. I don't know how he compares to his dad. I've done a terrible job at imparting my limited knowledge to my kid, in part because he hasn't shown interest and I know it won't stick if he's not motivated. This is the main reason I'm worse at it than my dad. So, it's frustrating that I don't feel proficient enough to fix stuff around my own house. AND it's really frustrating that I realize I won't become proficient in some of these things because I won't exercise the skills often enough. How often do you replace a roof? Yes, I realize that's bad example, but I picked it for long time window and relatively specific skills.

That said, I have no problem paying other people to fix stuff. My career exists in part because lot of people decided to pay other people to deal with computer issues. If I were to guess, I'd say some part of your viewership is frustrated at the unreliability and/or cost of people they'd like to pay to fix things, so they feel they have no choice but to do it themselves.

I hear you on all of this. I'm not suggesting it's bad to hire people. Nor am I trying to be dismissive or negative about folks who hire workers. Everyone has different ways of doing things, and that's grand. This all started because I found it really important to impart some of the knowledge of home/auto repair to my kids, both my sons and daughters. They're not going to do it for a living, but they don't hire people to do things, and they often help at friends' houses. I happened quite a few times that one of my kids would text me and say "my friend X needs a new water heater installed, you are doing one now, can you show them how?" or something similar. Thus I started making videos while doing jobs. It spiraled from there.

I wasn't meaning to imply you were being negative towards hiring other people to fix problems. It was more just me trying to voice my frustrations because I often feel like that "20ish crowd" you described. But I have a parent with a decent tool collection and know-how. Is there something larger going on? Is this all born out of a society that promotes college over trades?
