Okay here is a happy ending story about being a contractor to stupid home owners.

I flipped a hour almost two years ago. Owners wanted a lot done (changed floor plan on first AND second floors, take completely empty basement and add two bedrooms, a family room, and a full bathroom. When we started I asked if they ever had water in the basement. They said no. I knew they were lying.
I told them I would do a basement bathroom only if they had a perimeter drain installed so water would not seep in. They got a $17k estimate and said fuck that. So I told them im not going to do the basement work because they’ll get water in there and say it’s my fault. They promised they would never, so I wrote a contract that detailed how I thought there would be water, how I didn’t want to do the work without them taking the appropriate steps ahead of time to prevent flooding, and how I would not take any responsibility or offer any warranty for the basement work.
Fast forward to almost two years later, they had the basement flood in spring rains. About 3” of water. Ruined their flooring (they refused to get vinyl and insisted on laminate for basement like dipshits), and the drywall and insulation got wet and moldy. They also said the pump for the plumbing evacuation pit hadn’t worked, but they had it unplugged.
I found this out when I got served because they were suing me for $65,000 damages.

I don’t know if they forgot they signed a contract or if they are just dumb enough to thing they will just get whatever they ask for. I did not engage my lawyer for this. I submitted both the contract they signed and a video of them signing it with a date stamp.
Upon seeing the contract and watching the video (in which I explained the problems and why I didn’t want to do the work), the judge dismissed everything and charged them for all legal fees. The judge also mentioned the possibility of them being charged for brining a frivolous lawsuit. No idea. That happened after I left.

It gets even better. They actually contacted me this evening and asked if I would redo the work as planned for the original estimate. I asked if they were serious, they said yes, I hung up. I term called every single person I know who might do the work and told them the story and asked them to spread it around thr construction community. There’s no way they are getting that work done in the next two years.

tldr: assholes told me to do work I said would fail and then sued me when it failed. They lost.
Awesome, do you know if your state can enforce indemnity laws? Sounds like they do. One thing that really sucked in the south was it was unenforceable.
Glad it worked out in your favor.

is thatbc you have 2 kids and you just shove them in like a bomb shelter
Just one kid right now. We are trying for a second. Our house is rated to handle 9 earthquake, and all the buildings around us are being redone. The floor storage typically isn't very big. My 9mo old would be a tight fit. If we get bombed or get 9+ earthquake, we'll most likely die as a family.

Okay, the kitchen cabinets have been ordered - so I guess its going to happen.

What is the absolute best garbage disposal and faucet companies now days.

I never want to get under the sink again once I put this bad boy in.

Moen, Delta, Bosch? some rich person brand my poor butt has never heard of?

What is this nonsense?

Does anyone have a "stinky" garbage disposal...like...do you not always use water, flush it, run it a bit- run some lemon peel in it etc.? do we need a "non UV" UV light in the thing?

I always hated garbage disposals because they get misused, things dropped in them or hooked up wrong so often. When I redid the kitchen I skipped the disposal but made sure I left proper electrical and placed the drain to the side and back of the cabinet so a future owner could work in what they want.

I bought a small 1 gallon container that mounts in the cabinet to toss scraps in and an outdoor compost bin that has 2 sides. You can get nice compost in about 3 weeks with the right mix and remembering to tumble it. Really makes the plants grow. Someday I hope to go bigger and grow my own food with larger scale compost in the woods. I am flush with grass clippings, leaves and weeds.

I could go without, but its nice to have... growing up my dad ingrained never to turn it on dry, so I really have not had issues...

My current disposal is fine - its the walmart one I posted a while back, was like 80$ or so... it is fine, been fine, works fine, is not loud etc... part of me is like "just use it and replace once needed" - but my "old man" back says - I never want to get under the sink again to do any work- so I want something that I know will last forever... heck this stupid walmart guy may last forever /shrug...its fine.

I just bought the sink, wife wanted one that has a ledge to put a cutting board, colander, etc. in - so found a nice one on the 'zon- she wants drop in not undermount as countertops are butcherblock.

So a nice faucet - looking at Delta and Moen, and a nice disposal - then its just the simple easy no problem decision on backsplash and flooring!

you gonna wall mount your knives or just have a wood knife block on top of butcherblock, so much wood!

Cant be more wood than the current setup with butcherblock on oak cabinets lol

Most likely a mag strip for knives or in a drawer - or both.

We started throwing stuff away last night to prep... we have like 4231748297842 glass pyrex pans and 847384723 containers.

I need to remember to take before and after pics.

Got the lights off amazon- LED "can" lights with a "night light" amber ring mode- should be nice to have-

I cannot see how even a real UV is going to help the disposal considering what goes down the other drains in the house . Like you said, use it right, no problems. I would bet the first thing to break on the model you linked is the "UV" circuitry. The next model will have RGB LEDefense syncable with the kitchen mood lighting, via WiFi and your Amazon account, of course.

yea, thats usually enough for most ppl, and if youre gonna put knives in a drawer, have a dedicated knife drawer cuz you don't wannt open it and slice a finger looking for a fork, but then do you want to dedicate a drawer just for knives?

Yes - the point of the cabinets I got is that every lower is all drawers - the kitchen is small, so nothing should be on the countertop, to maximize work space.

All the little appliances all will have places in the drawers as there are different depth ones, esp in the stand up tall cabinets.
