John Dies At The End( If you like more whacky stuff, I love it).
This movie was brilliant and an example of what a guy like Rollins can do when he is not being a turbo libshit.

Recently rewatched all of these (wife is out of town and he hates horror so I am taking advantage) and agree with your assessment on all of them. House of the Devil is basically a direct homage to The Evil. Pontypool is low budget horror done right. Exit Humanity is also a great fucking movie, but hard for some people to wrap their heads around.

I know you are dunking on Henrickson, but he is good when you give him the right material to work with. In terms of Horror, Near Dark is probably my second favorite vampire movie ever, behind Only Lovers Left Alive. And he is great in that movie. Kathryn Bigelow directed that as her first movie and would follow it up with Point Break.

On a humorous side, Slither is probably my favorite comedy horror movie of all time. James Gunn at his best with his favorite actors make that movie really good.

The first two Hellraiser movies will always be among my favorite movies of all time, though.
They showed Hellraiser 2 on The Last Drive In and interviewed Ashley Laurence. Not only does she still look fucking great but was a really fun interview. I highly recommend checking it out on Shudder. She's a gem.

Shit wrong movie, I was thinking of He Never Died. Also a good movie and neat idea on several levels. The woke sequel with a black female lead (eyeroll) can go fuck itself, though.

John Dies at the End is just plain weird. I am not even sure I would call it Horror as its almost a psychological Cronenberg story. Good movie, but very very odd. Giamatti was awesome in it, though.

Boom! Studios did a series of comics that function as a very faithful sequel to those two films

Kirsty Cotton leads a group of people all harmed by the box as they hunt down and destroy objects of its kind while Pinhead seeks a way out of the labyrinth.

If you ever get tempted to read The Scarlet Gospels (sequel to The Hellbound Heart) I can save you the trouble - it's awful. Awful awful awful. Awful.

Would Mandy count as a horror movie? That movie is way the fuck out there. Either way it's goddamn good.

There was actually a great series of comics back in the day (I think Darkhorse maybe?) with stories set in the Hellraiser 1 and 2 universe, including a crossover with the Nightbreed characters at one point. They were surprisingly well written, like on the level of the horror stories that used to be in Heavy Metal way back before it just went full on porn.

I think that anything Shudder hosts can be considered horror in one way or another, although they do have Dave Made a Maze which I guess is kind of like a comedy slasher/stalker movie. I hadn't even thought of it but my friend informed me that the movies from The Last Drive-In are kind of time sensitive because they can only remain on Shudder as long as they hold the rights tot he movies that he's showing but it seems like they do a really good job of holding onto things, at least from the last season, for quite a while.

Shudder has been doing a great job grabbing a bunch of smaller movies and giving them some light.

Caveat ended up being a really good ghost story that I probably wouldn't have had access to without Shudder as well as The Witch in the Window.

An Unquiet Grave is a decent movie although it doesn't really seem like it should be feature length, the story could be pretty well handled in a shorter length in some kind of episodic series.

Hosts is probably one of my favorite movies up on their channel right now. It's British and pretty clever for what it's conveying but it does a really great job not going too far into gory but telling a story in the vein anyways. It gets pretty rough but still keeps its head and doesn't jump the shark into torture porn.

Porno is a pretty good throwback to shlocky horror of the 80's, which makes sense since it was produced by Fangoria.

The combo of Resolution and The Endless is a fun watch, they were made by the guy who made Spring

An older one from the beginning days of Shudder but Prevenge is awesome and stars and is directed by Alice Lowe from Garth Merenghi's Darkplace who has also done quite a bit of work with the guys from The Mighty Boosh and, I think, some Simon Pegg stuff.

Along the same lines as Prevenge there's Sightseers. Steve Oram, also from The Might Boosh crew (he's the homeless guy in the crackfox episode), has been in a few of my favorite horror movies over the past few years, and Alice Lowe is also in it. It more closely resembles dark comedy but it goes dark enough where it's horror.

Probably one of my favorites of all time at this point is A Dark Song, also with Steve Oram. It goes into Aleister Crowly black magick stuff and depicts a woman trying to perform the Abramelin ritual. It's pretty slow burn but it does an amazing job building atmosphere and tension

Sator was a decent low budget one. It's really low budget but the writer/director did a great job at telling his story. i think he used a bunch of recordings of either his mother or grandmother as they were aging and going a bit crazy and then built a movie around it.

I'd recommend Channel Zero as well. My favorite was the Rutger Hauer season (3) but they all do a great job given that they are based on creepypasta and they sometimes had to flesh out stories that made up no more than a few lines. It's kind of a shame that it got cancelled because they were all incredibly well made for being on a syfy channel budget

Really one of the best halloween movies. Hits that perfect tone of playful horror. I wish they'd make more movies like this.

Also, if anyone is into the old hollywood horror stuff, I've always really liked this one

I still want someone to take a classic Death Knight character and take him to the extreme in a goth horror graphic novel or movie.
Never heard of a movie that does a DK as an ultimate evil force unless I've missed one.

Three horror comedies :

One Cut of the Dead : amazingly ballsy Japanese zombie movie. Endure the rough beginning to get to see one of the funniest and most clever film ever.

Housebound : New Zealand seems to have a knack for the horror-comedy genre. This very effective entry is mostly notable for its tonal and thematic shifts, it really takes you to unexpected places.

Ghost Graduation : this is 99% comedy, but the pitch is that some dead high school students (or whatever is the equivalent in Spain) are haunting their school and a new professor is able to see them. Hilarity ensues.

A couple old classic Horror Comedies, if you can even still find them out there, are Saturday the 14th and Hellcop.

Thats a general issue with things adapted from HP Lovecraft. He was always great at world building, but he never really had clean endings to his stories. Any material adapted from his work has more or less reflected this. (See In the Mouth of Madness for a good example)

Some more recommendations I love. if you loved The Thing, or lovecraftian stuff this is a must see. Was funded by Kickstarter and is amazing. The 1st half is mind blowing, ending kind of goes off the rails a bit but ending these kinds of movies are tough.

This is also a great lovecraftian movie but way more of a slow burn and totally different from the Void.

If you like Giallo's, the doll scene in this is super creepy. Its a beautiful movie.

One of the most innovative zombie movies I have ever seen. Was also on The Last Drive in, for great extra info.

This is a crazy ass movie.

After months of being dismissive of Mandy I finally watched it last night.

Yup they really swung hard on this being a wild fucked up acid trip of a movie, but I really enjoyed it once I stopped trying to rationalize what the fuck was going on.

I think you need to be on acid while watching Mandy to even begin rationalizing what's going on.
