So I am staying in one of those furnished apt like hotels for a week. The offer "highspeed" internet but its slow as shit. Youtube is unwatchable, eq emu servers dont show up on list, cant connect to minecraft servers ect. Kinda wierd that its a wired connection too. I don't know much about networking but im assuming the hotels router firewall is blocking ports or somehow they are only giving me a tiny bit of bandwith. Anyway around this shit? Its a nice place but shitty internet is shitty. Id stay in a dump for a better connection lol. Halp!

Use your phone's 4G - teather or WiFi hotspot. Hotel internet sucks pretty much everywhere, they throttle it or the dude in the room next to you is downloading 1080p tranny porn..

This. Use FoxFi if you have android. It seems to get around the detection methods carriers employ. If that does not work, T-Mobile can't seem to recognize traffic originating from Firefox, but did block Chrome.

Or they charge $15 a day for it, thinking it's just a business expense anyway and the employer will pay for it. I couldn't care less who pays it, but I'm not agreeing to a $15 a day charge on my bill, even if it costs me nothing.

Is the room near the end of a hall and are you running wireless? I travel a lot and find that whenever I was stuck at the end of a hall I got crappy speeds. I have the same problem whenever I stay in a condo in Honolulu. The Ethernet plugs in the room, if there are any, may be active.

I vote for the first reply someone is definately downloading tranny porn there. I have thought about staying at places like this for a month or two but always stay away because of imaging how bad the internet would be.

It was a few years ago but I actually had a hotel ISP call me and threaten to turn off my connection because I was using too much bandwidth (I had been watching streaming video for like 10 minutes when the call came in). I was like, "Fuckin JV Bro".

The truth of the matter is that hotels don't want the internet to be good enough for video because it kills their PPV porn business.

Hotel internet is one connection, split up amongst every room in the place. You're not gonna get shit for bandwidth in that scenario. Fortunately, phones are awesome these days.

Depends on your carrier. I know with vzw, they just don't give a shit anymore since "upgrading" to those metered plans. Hotspot away!

The AT&T "truly unlimited plan" doesn't let you use the hotspot on the iphone, so I'll keep my old plan and just suck it up on a few hotels here and there.

I provide tech support for a hotel and I can promise you won't have such problems there. We have 2 load-balanced 100 mbps connections, ethernet sockets in every room and a 2.4/5 ghz coverage everywhere.

Since we're not living in the dark ages anymore, this service is free of charge.

A utility I used that worked pretty well for me was on PDANet. It was pretty simple to tether my laptop to my droid phone.

So, I had some business in west virginia recently and I decided to jump hotels daily until i found one with good internet. Wyndham at wingates was terribad at about 0.97mb/s down and slower upload. Then went to a days inn which connecting to one of their wifi routers of out many gave me about 10 mb/s. Pretty fucking good but the hotel itself sucked otherwise. Compromised at a best western plus which has about 4 mb/s over the days I stayed there and the hotel itself was much better.
